My first photos

ReneeValois May 31, 2008 02:21 PM

I hope this works. Although I've been posting here off and on for over a year, I've never tried sticking in photos before. Here are my one and only BRB, Loki (who's a real sweetheart) and my two corn snakes, Foxfire (orange) and Daguerre (gray), who are even sweeter-tempered than Loki. If this works, I'll add more as time passes, including the baby blood python I hope to get for my birthday this summer.

Have a wonderful weekend!

It's about time.

Seriously, very nice snakes. That's a great shot of the corn snakes.

Did you get the blood python yet?

Thanks,
Ed

Thanks Ed!

No, I don't have the blood python yet. I'm waiting for the 2008 clutches to hatch. I particularly have my eye on the babies from a gorgeous deep-red pair whose 10 eggs are due to hatch around June 25th (right before my birthday). The breeder says he'll let the babies go out after they've successfully taken 3-5 meals and he knows they're feeding well. So some time this summer....It's hard to wait!

Looks like I see some yellow. They are all very nice and the pictures are very good quality. I don't use the word cute much, but the second pic of the corns is just that!!

Loki is a nice red BRB, my favorites are the red phase BRB's.

I have two corn snakes as well. Both male, a snow and a type a anery with loads of yellow.

I have two male bloods, they are very nice and docile too, just a little huffy when first disturbed, who isn't LOL!!!

I need to get me a woman who wants a blood python for her birthday! All I ever got was tolerated, if they couldn't meet me at least half way the relationship was dissolved.

Yes, Frank, Daguerre’s a type A (although fortunately not in personality)!
When I first got him as a little wriggler, he was pure black and white, but he gradually turned silver as he aged. Now he has a yellow nose (which doesn’t really show in the photo) and yellow on the sides, especially near the front---which I like. Since he’s still young (he’ll be three this summer) he could get even more color.

I’d love to see your corn snakes; post pictures when you can. My daughter particularly loves the snow corns. Perhaps because of my example, she’s the most interested in snakes---outside of me—in the family and sometimes helps me with educational “hands-ons” through the herp society (using one of my snakes).

Thanks for your kind words about the pictures and snakes. I love the red phase BRB’s the best too!

I understand male bloods tend to be a little smaller than females (which my husband would prefer). How long are your bloods and approximately how wide at their widest point?

There are plenty of women around here who love snakes. I’d say the local herp society has as many women as men, and when we do hands-on events, more women come up and say they’d LOVE to get a snake but their husband/boyfriend won’t let them. A surprising number of men hate/fear snakes in spite of the cliché about boys always loving them. Check out your local herp society/club to meet snake-loving women. Lots of the women in our group have many snakes; I know at least one single young women has over 60 (of course, she breeds them).

My husband doesn’t particularly like snakes, but he’s not afraid of them either. He puts up with mine because he knows I enjoy them so much. Every once in a while he lets me get “one more,” each time saying “this is the last one,” (so there’s wiggle room) but he has put his foot down over large snakes. I think a blood python is a nice compromise---I can honestly tell him they only average 5 or 6 feet long…although he may be surprised by their girth…. I really love their look and it’s also nice that they’re less commonly owned snakes.

From what I understand male bloods tend to be a little smaller than females (which my husband would prefer). How long are your bloods and approximately how wide at their widest point?

A few pic's of my males...

I would say that males get just as big as females if well fed. I have seen males in the 5-6 foot range. As a generalization they tend to be in the 4-5 foot range.

Both my males are about 4 feet and 7 years old on a feeding schedule of every 3 weeks to once per month.

They do not eat as frequently as other pythons and if you do they sometimes get constipated (I have not had this happen to me).

Mine are probably two times as thick as an average adults wrist at their widest point. They definitely look very stout compared to any python of similar size, except ball pythons of course.

They both are definitely sexually mature at their age and current size, they leave those castings every year during their breeding season. When I get some good pic's of my corns I will Post. A few crappy ones are on my Colubrid web page

Beautiful bloods, Frank! Thanks for sharing the photos and the information. I'll be bugging you with questions ( I hope you don't mind) to tap your wisdom and years of experience when my little blood finally shows up. I didn't know that it was better to feed them so infrequently, for instance...

Those aren't crappy photos of your corns; I can see they're gorgeous snakes (as all of your critters are)!

Thanks, Dave! I don't have as many different snakes to present as most people on the forum, but I LOVE the ones I do have, so I could be talked into showing them off on occasion.

Nice... Loki is looking good. That was the one from Leaping Lizards in Burnsville, right? If so I'm pretty sure I held that one!

Yup, Loki came from Leaping Lizards in April of 2007; so you're the only one posting here who has seen him in person!
