CBB 2008 Corallus ruschenbergerii

FLVenom May 31, 2008 05:31 PM

This beautiful gems were just born two weeks ago. They have already shed and took their first meal yesterday. Corallus ruschenbergerii is probably one of the more attractive species in the Corallus genus. The adults get huge (I've found them in Costa Rica in the 6 1/2 foot range)and are vividly patterned. Below are two of the neonates out of the litter.

How do you tell them from C. annulatus?

If you compare the head of an annulatus, you will see they are completely different. ruschenbergerii looks more like hortulanus, but has a consistantly cool pattern and usually outstanding color variety throughout the snake.

I can't tell if it is just those animals, or if it is their age or state in the shed cycle that makes them less contrasting than I am used to seeing...but whatever it is, they are great looking animals, and I would love to add a pair to my SoLA collection some day.
