HELP! SICK BOA!!!!!!!!!

gothicbambi Jun 01, 2008 01:34 AM

I'm pretty sure this is mouth rot on this mexican boa I resuced, but I'm not 100% sure could you help me out?
He eats fine, and acts pretty heathy but his front mouth seems to be split and he breathes out of his mouth alot.
Dose anybody know anything I could do for him?
I dont have enough money to take him to a vet, is there something I can buy for him at a general store of semi-cheap online? I dont have hundreds of dollers to spend.
Please let me know what I should do!
Thank you all!

my last post got deleted so I'll be nicer on this one. You didn't say you don't have money right now, you said "I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend" well it's going to cost probably quite a few hundreds to cure that snake. You also stated that you rescued that animal not that it was dropped off on your doorstep. It is still my opinion that the snake is now your responsibility and you have an obligation to get the snake all the treatment that it needs. I work full time, go to school full time and care for well over 100 snakes and rats and if any of them get sick it would be my duty to get it to the vet no matter how much it would cost to cure and being a full time college student that doesn't have my parents pay my way, I'm broke most of the time but I would do without so my snakes are cared for properly (I'm 30 so my parents quit paying my way a long time ago).

Animals don't get sick by our pocket books...if you can't get the snake to a vet, give it to someone who can. It isn't fair to the animal otherwise.

It could be mouth rot, but open mouth breathing is a sign of an R.I. This animal may have a systemic infection for all we know. You can look up a million different "home remedies", but there is no treatment as quick as the one your vet dispenses!
