HELP! SICK BOA!

gothicbambi Jun 01, 2008 01:56 AM

I'm pretty sure this is mouth rot on this mexican boa I resuced, but I'm not 100% sure could you help me out?
He eats fine, and acts pretty heathy but his front mouth seems to be split and he breathes out of his mouth alot.
Dose anybody know anything I could do for him?
I dont have enough money to take him to a vet, is there something I can buy for him at a general store of semi-cheap online? I dont have hundreds of dollers to spend.
Please let me know what I should do!
Thank you all

it really looks like a vet trip would be best and should not cost hundreds of dollars. meanwhile be sure your husbandry is 110% ideal for the poor thing, what situation was he "rescued" from? was the prev situations husbandry good? i worry about the mouth breathing, do your best to get him to a vet, many are good at working on payment issues, keep us posted!

Alright, I dont get paid for another week though and none of my friends are willing to loan me money, do you think he'd be okay tell friday, I could go straight from work and cash my check and take him in.
He was kept in a 10gal with a cardboard over it T_T
Poor little guy, his water bowl was tiny and he was cramped up.
I had to keep him in the 10gal over night, intell yesterday morning I put him in a 60gal, he seems to be doing good and he was realy happy to get food. I just worry sick about all of my animals. Thanks I'll keep you posted ^^ Thanks for being worried about him, unlike the guy in the other forum.
I'm taking him to the owner of one of the exotic pet stores today, he isnt realy a vet but he knows alot about snakes and their sickness, he said after he looks at it he can tell me what is it and it needs meds he will give him some untell I can get him to the vet on friday. I hope he gets better, poor baby. I've been calling him Lucky.

be careful letting just anyone give meds, but an "expert" opinion isnt bad if its free, still not a vet replacement. id call the vet and see if they can hold a check, i know we do that alot (wish we saw exotics) improving the husbandry is probably the BEST thing you can do without medical intervention, he looks far to large for a 10 gal, so there alone is a big help, perfecting the temps is the next thing to work on, look them up even online and get them there to the best of your ability, esp if you are feeding, let us know how it goes!
