One ugly MoFo at work.

terryd Jun 01, 2008 10:59 AM

I have been working a lot lately and thought you all might like to see a few fish and some snakes.

Client of mine w/ a nice Rainbow.

Found a Bullsnake swimming across the Bighorn river w/ the same client, Brent, who really liked the little snake hunting we did while fishing.

Big Carp, which I always enjoy seeing. Not all trout fishermen enjoy the Carp though.

Bighorn county, male, L.t. multistrata, and the ugly MoFo who found him.

Another Bullsnake which came out from under some tin.

Here is the insitu shot.

A different Bull under tin.

Two days after finding the male multistrata I turned up this female, who feels and looks gravid.

Ugly MoFo w/ female milk in hand.

Twenty four inch Brown trout from some fast water.

Driving home I drove over this Bullsnake doing 80 mph. Thank god I missed him. I moved him to safer ground.

Hope you all enjoyed this short fishing and snake hunting tour.

I'll second that... it must really suck alot to be able to find milks while getting paid... Seeing those shots makes me wanna be back up @ elevation in the divide using a flyrod to snag some 'brookies.' Congrats on the pales as well... it would be even better if the female's gravid -- good luck there.

I can't take it anymore!
Fat trout on the grill tonight for sure - not fresh and wriggling but they'll have fins.
Nice big chunky pale girl you found!
The more I see of Montana the more I wanna drive a "for sale" sign into the lawn. Thanx for posting the terrain pix!

Thanks to all of you for looking. It's nice to have a community of people who enjoy the milks and other parts of life too.

Shannon- I hope she is gravid too. And your right, I feel pretty lucky to have the job I have.

Chris- Any time you want to come out here and cast a line, you have a place to stay, and we'll catch em too. And if you come in the spring we'll find some snakes too.

Mike- Funny you say that, sometimes in the heat of late July or August when the temps are more around 95 and 100, I really enjoy being inside w/ the AC on for a day. I'm not complaining, just sometimes it feels soooo good.

Ryan- We'll get out this summer and see if you can catch a bigger Rainbow then last years Rainbow you caught.

Jeff- The grilled fish sounds good to me too, right now. I like the idea of you moving here too. Make it so number one. (little Star Trek there for you.)
Glad you liked the habitat shots, but I really need to take some better ones. The Bighorn is such a strange place to find and hunt Pales in, and Stillwater Co. is completly different looking habitat from the Bighorn. It would warrant a few shot of each to show you the difference.

Stillwater Co., No tree's just grass, sagebrush and rock out crops.

Bighorn river, nothing but trees, as you can see behind me in this photo. No rock for milks to hind under, just logs, logs, and more logs, tall grass and rodent holes. Tough place to find milks in.

Thanks again guys. -Dell

Doug,

Those rocks are fist-sized river rocks... no snakes under them! Luckily, there are plenty of logs along the banks of the mighty Big Horn!

Sunherp Jun 02, 2008 09:33 AM

Killer post, Dell! We've got to get out fishing/herping while your tribe's in Sweden. I'm talking whole day stuff, not this piddly 3-4 hour stuff we've been doing.

I've got good news... eggs are hatching...

Makes me want to head west. Although I really enjoy my job, I couldn't imagine how much fun it must be to actually get paid to catch fish and snakes all day!
