OT..Leucistic Texas Rat's pip...

FRoberts Jun 01, 2008 02:53 PM

Well 3 of the 9 have piped after 61 days of incubation and there is another clutch of het's cooking that are a month behind these. They where incubated on the shelf of my snake room (that's how I personally incubate all Colubrid eggs). The temp's fluctuated from 76-86 over the period.

I love the little monsters when they first poke their heads out and come into the world!!!

Here is one of the clutch from a little further back. You can see the 3 ones in the first row are the ones that where first to pip.

Note: The eggs where not exposed like that. I use course vermiculite and also a mass of airy moistened sphagnum moss packed to the top of shoebox till they start piping then I remove the moss so I can watch easier. The eggs also get 2.5 times larger then when they are first laid the way I incubate them, fully hydrated eggs hatch out larger more fit neonates!!

3 pipped, but I only saw pics of one plus the group of eggs. Should be at least two others pipping....

all 3 of them keep pulling back into the egg every time you pull the lid off the shoe box.

Since they just piped it will take them awhile to finally decide to venture out into the real world and or let me take a pic. To take a pic you have to leave on the table walk away and come back. These little buggers keep pulling back into the egg every time I come to see them lol.

Wonderful shot of the head poking out! A friend of mine in the local herp society has a leucistic; they are lovely serpents! I love the clean color and the big eyes! (She calls hers "Bubbles" because of the large round eyes.)

Of course, we're all awaiting more pics once the little guys lose their fear of the outside world and finally slither out.

Thanks Renee,

They will come out, usual takes a day for them to do so. Depening on if I keep bothering them, then more!

Frank,

Congrats, that's awesome. Keep the pics coming. I might have to put one of these Leucistics on my wish list, they are neat looking.

Thanks,
Ed
