That's a beauty, alright, but are you sure it's a scute? Doesn't look right to me...

This was the first rattler I've ever come across, I'm not positive that it is a Mojave, but it seems to be the closest match. Another thought was that it could be a black-tailed rattlesnake, since its rattle was black, but I'm not sure if we have them here in Southern Nevada or not (I know they are in Arizona).
What does it look like to you??

I was thinking a Speck (mitchelli) but the guys further down the thread hit it right on the nose with the ssp ID. It's a Panamint.
Either way, it's a beauty! Congrats on a great find!

Beautiful. I was just starting to get fed up with Red Rock. I have had 0% success finding snakes there. You have renewed my faith and tomorrow morning my camera and I will be making a trip out there. Hopefully I will have some pics to post.
This one was found deep into the Icebox Canyon trail in a very rocky spot. There are a ton of different lizards out there as well. This was my first time herping at Red Rock and ended up being the first find of the year for me!
