Im thinking about using the visionariums for my bps... They're stackable and thats perfect for my small space... But the guy who sells them thinks they might be too small for bps...
What do you guys think? They are 30" long x 12" wide x 12" high....

Anyone?
They have some advantages and some disadvantages , it is good that you can put a divider in them and make two out of one , witch is big enough for most Balls ,the only thing I have found that can be a problem is keeping the humidity up if you live in a dryer climate , you may have to cover some of the corner post as they are ventilated . But all in all they are ok for just about any thing that will fit in them . have a good week. David
So you've had no problem with keeping your balls in them?
They are exact same size as 20 gallon...

Ball Pythons do better in an enclosure that is not as open. The cages look nice, I think they would be better for eyelash vipers or tree pythons, that you want to display. Balls like security, racks are the best.
Thanks for the info... I might just go with them for now and work on the rack by fall... Size wise though... 20 gallon sized tank is ok? Thats what these visionairums are...
It is a little narrow for adults. What size pythons do you have. Why do you not want a rack now? Other companies sell racks with less slots. If you get something glass, you'll be back here in two weeks asking why they won't eat. Don't try to buck the system. The system works just fine.
Mike
Well for one, i am just starting my collection and my first spider arrives tomorrow.
And secondly, right now I am going to put him in the living room. And i highly doubt the wife will enjoy the look of a rack next to the wood burning stove... LOL.
Unless of course i build one of out melamine and pleixglass... that would nice...

and it might not. If you have one that won't eat, you'll always wonder if that is why. Many times I have moved snakes out of the vision baby racks to 28 qt tubs and they quit feeding. STUFF them back in the baby tub and they resume feeding. Balls love tight spaces. They are notorious for being finicky anyway, why give them a reason. If he must put something on display, I think he has picked the wrong species to keep. Also when someone has a display in their home the temps usually aren't correct, they come on here and want to know how to get temps right when the ambient is 70-75. Buck the system if you must, but the system works.
When I was a kid we had a bunch of snakes... Black racers, ball pythons, etc etc.. We had them in 10 and 20 gallon tanks.
They did just fine.
What I dont understand is if you love the snakes and what you have collected, why dont you love to show them off? I personally always loved looking at them and enjoying their presence in my home. Yes I understand racks work, and they work to house more snakes then you could wih tanks, and their are more biz ecnomical, but sometimes one way isnt the only way.
and I gave you mine. It sounds like you had your mind made up already. If you are housing them as pets and aren't too concerned about them growing to breeding size in a reasonable amount of time, you will be fine. What is the range of temps in your living room?
Jason,
I own 2 of the Visionariums and though I no longer use them (finaly switched everything over to racks) I have been very successfully with them. I never had a problem with any of my animals not eating while being kept in them. (Spider, Pastel, Het Albino, poss het Pied Ringer from Mike Bell) In fact any of the Ball Pythons that I kept in there did very well over a 1 year period. I covered the top screen area with plastic and just left the corners open and never had a bad shed. I used a under tank heater, a hide box, water bowl and no light. The only problem I encountered with them was that my aspen substrate would fall into the sliding track for the glass. It would then fall out when I would open the glass. But other then that they worked great. So if you like them and are in your price range go for it. And as far as keeping BPs isolated and confined I say hogwash. my first BP, a Lemon Pastel female that was kept in a 20g long tank right next to my TV. Every night she would come out of her hide, lift her head up about 6-8 inches and watch the movement on TV. And even with the noise and the commotion she would still eat every Tuesday and Friday night like clockwork. In fact she went from the 300 grams that I received her at to over 1200 grams before her first birthday. So its not impossible to keep your snake in an area that you can enjoy it. Which really isn't that the point.
Jeff
You got it Jeff!!!
I couldnt agree more, and glad to hear that they worked good for you.
I ordered one today!
I remember that snake, it was at an Orlando show. It sounds like all is going well for you. Keep in touch, stop by and say hello in Daytona.
Mike
Yep That would be the one. And I tell you I hope he proves out because my 05 Het male ain't got no game. So off the bench and In to the game he went. My 05 het female just had her POS so keepin' my fingers crossed. And he has great markers so we'll see how that goes.
Jeff
P.S. Daytona. You bet.......
I'll bet that he is a het, great markers and a ringer too. How big is the female?
Mike
2000 grams before the season. Have not weighed her since then.
Hopefully 5-6 good eggs. We'll see.
Jeff
I have some of them, personally, I think they are a bit small for full grown males, and to small for full grown females. I'll see if I can get pics of both a normal male and female in the tanks.

For comparison purposes: the floor area of a CB-70 tub (standard adult ball tub) is 30 l x 14 w x 6 h - I would think for most animals you'll be fine.
