Just a temp pic

JKruse Jun 02, 2008 12:30 AM

Ocean County, NJ. Toughies to find most often, but the pleasure was all mine. This was my first adult (male) -- took off on live fuzzies then switched to thawed within weeks. Thanks for peekin'.

Love the white on that bad boy! He has a lot of nice contrast too. Here's an out of focus pic of one of my '07 St. Marys
Temporalis.

Thanks Phil. Well, truth be told the snake is not THAT white, but rather the effects of the bright sunlight. He's more of a creamy off-white, and not nearly as nice as the temp found by Justin Collins a week or so ago. But dog tame and eats fuzzies from my hand -- who would've thought. Now to pair him up -- maybe you and Howie can assist me on that one weekend.

Nice Jerry, I'd really like to get some nice non-striped line NJ ocastals that look as nice as those.

JKruse Jun 02, 2008 09:37 AM

Hey Tony,

if you ever get the chance, c'mon up with the fellas and let's poke around in the sticks for a couple days. Lotsa fun, just unpredicatable especially with the temps. The combination of cooler weather and rain the day before going out seem to be the best conditions. After five years of looking this was a first, but boy did I pull something in my back while doing the dance of joy (with snake-in-hand of course...), lol.

The slab of rock I found this boy under I had previously flipped hundreds of times only to find ringnecks and worm snakes, and an occasional baby eastern hog or baby box turtle. Tons of effort but SO worth it. Your animals are amazing by the way.

I'm just outright jealous!!! On a positive tangent it's nice to see new genetic stock especially in terms of Ocean County! Aside from this I'm sure you already know what I have to say... damn you!

Great find!!

Is a hypo red milk. She is growing frustratingly slow...but beautiful.

jyohe Jun 02, 2008 05:54 PM

she is worth any wait......

how old and how big and how much do you feed her???

......just curious what you think is slow......I have 3 of Hardwick's reds here and I thought they were growing fast ,,,I think they actually aren't ......I feed like 2 pinks every 5 days if I remember......they aren't a year old yet......

....thanxx and good luck.....

I got her as a juvenile 2 years ago indirectly from him. The male didnt do well and I lost him, but replaced him last year and he is about half her size already. She is at least 3 and only 2'. I dont think she will go next year, so I am hoping the following. I heard these things grew fast.....this one doesnt.

jyohe Jun 03, 2008 05:50 PM

some milk females that the guys in here own only got to be 21 to 25 inches.....maybe she's petite......LOL......really........feed her and make sure she is thick enough......wild milks here in Pa are from 2 foot to 4 foot long......most only a little over 2......I have just one female eastern here and she is probably a little over 2.I'll try and remember to actually measure her......I have no mate....she actually ate this year again....I mean after eating like 6 weeks she stopped again....and now has eaten 2 more times...last year she ate 6 weeks.like 6 or 8 times in the whole year.......so I am happy she is at least eating and maybe not hating me as much.....

......ask Shannon and Hardwick.......they'll know......reds are new to me ,,,but I think of them as eastern sized.....only prettier...

good luck..

........I like them smaller.......if I want big I'd get CA milks....?

actually I have one because I can't let it go and I actually cannot keep more than one and cannot buy sell or trade any eastern here in Pa.....

I sure put in my hours to say the least, lol. Although not the Tarzan you have proven to be, I do try to get into the field every now and then. Although an avid novice field herper from ages 10 - 14 before leaving Los Angeles to immigrate to NY (truly was, and at times still IS, a culture shock...), I have only this year (at age 36) begun to get back into the field by venturing down to Virginia thanks to Howie S. and Phil P., and have been receiving friendly invites as of this year to herp in Mississippi, Arizona, Florida, Kansas, and my old stomping grounds of Califoohnyah. But until I get to that airport, the Pine Barrens will just have to do. But what I REALLY wanna do is do some herping in the Philippines as my wife is from there. Although I have no connections at present regarding this (not that I have tried real hard either...), I'm sure a few inquiries and some crisp Benjamins could potentially get me a productive few days in the tropics there. I've been there twice to visit in-laws, and the only herp-related experience was seeing a roadside vendor selling a five-foot retic but for consumption. Any experiences there on your end Dell??

Great Temp, and even more rewarding that you FOUND it yourself. Congrats on the spectacular catch.
