This handsome garter was in my back yard under a board.
The picture does no justice, the dorsal stripe is cream white, and the side stripes are reddish orange.
Overall the snake appears to be in sound health, very feisty, musks a lot. about 24 to 26 inches long, just shed last night.
The location is upstate NY, and in 30+ years of picking up garter snakes, this is a first in my yard.
Is this anything other than a colorful eastern? rare?
