Monster islands shed out!

Jeff Schofield Jun 02, 2008 12:03 PM

OK, sorry for the tease last week but its June and weather on the island still hasnt topped 70 degrees! These guys are found in all stages of funkiness....the little one you will notice has a little blood on the eye where I had to peel off layers of skin/blister. This one was asking for some help, the board I flipped at first...he wasnt there. Then after hunting the local area(5 minutes) something told me to lift this one AGAIN...sure enough the little guy was there looking just horrible. When I put him in the bag he bit down on a thread hanging inside and figured he was in such bad shape he wouldnt last til the end of the day. A little TLC, working with the old shed and hand watering and he has begun the long road that is recovering from blister. Remember QUARANTINE!! And of course several hand washes! The good one in the first pic-sorry no greens or anerys.

That 'creamish' dorsal stripe if you will is really something. Very nice eastern... wow, and good luck pulling it through!

Wayne, soak it in water for a day or so...even this might not get the underneath saturated as the sheds weld together pretty good. It looks big enough, I would get someone else to hold the business end and take an exacto knife and start to work it on the belly side of the tail. Cutting subcutaneous skin isnt as big of a deal as leaving it on. Skin will heal, but not dealt with the tail will fall off eventually...and thats why we find so many milks with imperfect tails in the wild. Once you get the old skin off I would treat it as an open wound because of the bacteria built up. Dip or spray with hydrogen peroxide to cut the infection and keep it on paper towels of the cleanest substrate you can get. You will likely have to repeat the HP solution as the tail is sometimes around other fun backside bacteria. I have used HP solution to go to war with blistered snakes with good(not perfect)results. Good luck!
