NEED HELP

lordvoldemort Jun 02, 2008 12:16 PM

I just got my male albino retic on thursday and have not had any problems with him what so ever. But, yesterday when i tried to handle him he bite me. I left him alone over night and when i tried to handle him again this morning he struck at the hook. Is he just in a bad mood? or is he actually an aggresive snake.

Some snake babies period can be bitters at first whether it be a ball to a blood to a retic and some can be tame right from the start. I let my new snakes settle in for a few days before I start to handle them. Kinda lets them settle in to their new home. Keep at it. He will get better with more handling. Good luck.

I agree with the posts above. Give him some time to settle in. Is he now in I high traffic area, this could cause stress and him to react this way. Give him a few more days.

Now, I say welcome to the retic world. If the snake was fed in his cage he will always act that way. My retics fire out all the time when I walk by, it makes me pee in my pants everytime but when I get them out of the cage they are fine. They are just very aggressive eaters. Mine still will snap at the hook once in ahwile, but hey that is why you use one. Its not your hand. It will soon figure out the hook is not food and when its touched by that it will calm down. In fact everytime I go to mist my guys, they move up to the front thinking I am food. So I have to open a small crack and start spraying, I gets a snap once in awhile from that, but then calms down. These are the things will you learn as you go.

I use to think I had a mean burm, first night I brought her home she was huffing and puffing everytime I walked in the room, I got tagged twice by her. Both my errors. First time I was acting like a fool with her around my neck singing to my wife the B. Spears song that she sang with the burm and next thing I know it bit my hand. Second time reached in to grab somthing. No hook, and got hit. Stupid mistakes but I learned. She was only 7 ft at the second time and did not wrap with the bite.

Good Luck, you will be fine.

Hey rot, the pee'n in the pants thing made me laugh. Thanks I needed that. I know what ya mean though. When I'm in my room and doing my daily things I also will spook myself if I go infront of one of the cages an not notice at the time that eyes are watching me. ha ha

you should also remember that if you allow it to take a strike at you and you put it right back in the cage or leave it alone it will learn that if it strikes you will leave it alone and then it has the upper hand on you, you cant let that happen, you dont want an 18 foot snake knowing its the boss of you, be care but be persistant, hook it out and calm it down it will need to feel safe and secure with your handling of it,good luck and good choice , JIM.....
