This is driving me nuts!

boaphile Jun 02, 2008 12:40 PM

These crazy Boas of mine are not doing at all what they are "supposed" to do and it's driving me crazy! So we all are on the same page. Every year we have baby Boas right!? Right. Every year the vast majority of our Boas wait to have them when they know you aren't looking right? Right. So you have to be really diligent to catch them in the act right? Right. So I have been all over it. Checking and rechecking. I have seen this enough times to know pretty much when a female is right about to have those kiddies at any minute. So I check and check and check. I really want to get some good video inside the cage of a female giving birth. Simple enough right? Wrong!

For a guy that has a few litters every year. I figured I could be pretty stinking sure I'd have a litter and be able to catch a Momma Boa in the act. Well, I have. Three times! That's a pretty decent number. I was there from the first baby three times. So I have gotten great video right? Wrong. Female Boas are usually out of it and pay no attention to me when they have those puppies right? WRONG AGAIN! Most of the time they are oblivious, but for some reason these three girls, who must be conspiring against me, have each decided not to do what I wrote they normally do. All this just to deprive me of that video I want to get so much I can taste it.

So here I am now typing away with more dribble, sorry about that, to eat up some time to keep me occupied so I am away from the cage where that Momma is not done, and in fact is still pushing more little babies out all over the place, while striking at the cage door trying to nail me for simply wanting to show off some video of this little event. I didn't think I was asking that much was I? No! It's not that much to ask, but will she cooperate and let me do my thing!? Absolutely not. Crabby Mommy wants some privacy. Drives me nuts!!! Not that I needed any help in that department. Anyhow I will come back to this with some pictures after she finally gets done pushing my further into my incurable mental distress...

Ok, I'm back and she's done. Naturally I didn't get a single photo of the actual birth and certainly had no shot at any video. Oh well. But I did get a nice litter of pure Colombian Pastels. I'm pretty happy about that. Here are some of the little munchkins!

Now you would be the opposite of me because I don't want to see my females having babies because I am way too nervous and don't want to bother them! I just want to come in after it is all done lift the paper and see the babies!
