albino X het Breeding Q's

JonMIller Jun 02, 2008 07:57 PM

I bred het to het hypo's and albino's in the past with no acctual morph's being produced, with that said here is the question.
I did het to albino breeding,(10 egg's) is it possible to get no albino's from this pairing?? The male het I bought with this female (10 yrs ago)did prove out by producing 2 albino's the second time around with a 50% poss het female, so I did not think the female was anything but a het ,Is it possible it just didn't line up.
Please give me your theory's. (2 yrs ago same female bred to het male that produced the 2 albino's, she laid 9 egg's that time 10 this time.... NO ALBINO'S !!! Is it safe to say NORMAL!!

Thanks, Jon Miller

I think you mean the female is het, but you say het to albino. I would say she isn't a het from those odds, twice. I did get nine from a het female bred to an albino male with no albinos. I should have got 50% in that case. You should have got 25%. Don't bother with a het male anymore, use an albino male and try again. At least that way all the babies will either be albinos or 100% hets.

It sounds to me as if this mating is a het albino male X possible het albino female instead of a het albino male X albino female.

It is possible for a het albino x het albino mating to produce 19 eggs without hatching any albinos. But it is not likely. The probability of 19 eggs producing all normal babies is 0.004. In statistics, the two most common cutoffs are a probability of 0.05 and 0.01. Your test has gone past both cutoffs.

In other words, it is safe to call her normal. But the odds are 99.6% rather than 100% certain that she is normal.
