size and weight question

lilqt Jun 02, 2008 08:23 PM

My little guy, or not so little guy seems to be getting a belly on him and I just want to make sure we are on track between length and weight.

He is just about 10 inches (tip of tail to mouth) and about 1.3oz (36g) his siblings from the same clutch are half the size of him (a friend has them, two in one cage) and my lilqt is huge compared to them. I know it is not healthy to have a BD over weight so that is my biggest concern. As well, my friend feels they are only about a month and half yet my guy looks to be more in the 5 month range for age.

At this size can I be more confident in handling him? My friend seems to feel I should only handle a minute or two a day max yet my little one just loves to be with me and my kids.

He seems to be very healthy, I give him about 15 or less crickets in the morning with fresh greens and squash available all day then about an hour before lights out I give him a few more crickets (5 or so). He is pooping just fine usually twice a day (and they are BIG ones I might add).

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Seems huge for that age, but he's also long..I think he's fine...Seems to be eating as much as they should at that age.

hes fine. dont have to worry too much about dragons being overweight especially at that age. they should eat as many insects as they can in a 10 minute time frame or so. with him being so big compared to the others seperate him from the others so he doesnt hog food or start eating them. it will happen so its better to seperate him.

Hey Judson,
Sorry, I did not word my first post clearly What I meant to say is that my BD, Cuddles is all on his own and my friend has two in one cage and they are very small (they both are half the size of my BD).

Sorry for my miscommunication.

I would suggest to him to maybe seperate both of them, are they eating fine and not growing?

I wouldn't worry about your dragon, he's perfect...The size and appetite is a sign of great health. I would just make fun of your friend for having two dragons that are little sissy size...jk/lol.

been there done that. i let my dragons loose in my dragon room when i did that. let them eat and made it easier the clean up LOL. good trick for loose crickets, get some of the glue traps for rats/mice, put em on the floor. loose crickets will get stuck to em

Here is a Cyber hug for you!!! Now I will have to put the tape somewhere my kids wont get stuck on it. LOL Im thinking behind the TV because it is dark and there is the electronic attraction crickets have.

As for letting my beardie out, well maybe in a few more months but for now he is still to much a baby.

Thank you so much for the advice!!! (and I feel better knowing I am not the only one who has dumped crickets )
