NEW BABY HATCHED WOOHOO!!!

dariend Jun 02, 2008 09:00 PM

I just hatched out my first ever leopard gecko. She? (temp sexed) is a sunglow and is looking pretty good I think. So what do you guys think of her? Any tips on keeping baby leos would be greatly appreciated since this is my first time. Also, I incubated her at 82 degrees, should I get all females from my other clutches? I will go take a pic of her and post it in a little bit.

Well, not a sunglow, but very nice looking. It is a healthy looking hypo. What were the parents?

DarienD Jun 03, 2008 02:00 PM

the father was from JMG Reptile and the mother was from Urban Gecko.

Thats why you have a strong looking bloodline. What mutations where they? pics?

DarienD Jun 03, 2008 02:57 PM

This is the father. So is this gecko a sunglow? Both of the parents were tremper sunglows. The guy at JMG Reptile told me that the reason it doesn't look nice is because I did not bump the temp up to 88 degrees after 30 days. He said that if you don't keep it warm, it will never color up.

even low temp. babies arent that dark if they are albino, especially hypos like that. do you have a mom pic? dad is a sunglow and if mom looks like that too then the only possibilities are if that egg came from a female in the cage that was not albino, or one of the sunglows isnt tremper strain. The male looks a little vegas to me but if they are both from proven tremper lines than what you have is abnormal. Was this pair alone in the cage? if so i would contact both the breeders for their opinion. keep me updated please

KyleFrost Jun 03, 2008 03:28 PM

BTW, you got your geckos from reliable sources and maybe i'm out of my element on this one, so no disrespect to the big guys that have put in more hours of work than me. Just looks really dark

DarienD Jun 03, 2008 03:30 PM

Well, I only have these sunglows so it cam from thm. The females ARE urban gecko line and the male IS JMG line. I just had another hatch today and it is the same. How can I tell if it is a sunglow for sure? What do you think it is? It is only a day old, so it has not colored up at all yet.

Anyway, I hope I get this figured out.

It is a nice hypo, which makes sense because both parents are hypo, but my guess is still that they are of incompatible lines of albinism. I have hatched tremper albinos at 82 and they still hatch obviously albino(though slightly dark) and darken drastically if kept cold after that. Here is an example of one i hatched at 82, granted it was 88 for the first 3 weeks to make males.

DarienD Jun 03, 2008 04:19 PM

So, exactly what are my geckos? Are they just those $20 ones you see at the pet stores? If so, I will not have anything good to say about the person I bought them from, but I really hope that is not the case.

Without seeing the mother, it is a hypo het. for the males strain of albinism. Pet shops generally dont pay extra for het albino leopard geckos so in a wholesale sense it is a 20 dollar gecko but as a holdback it will prove to be of a much greater value. Like I said, it looks like a non albino, and you bought from well known breeders and probably paid a premium. That premium, in my opinion, should ensure that you are getting the genetics you paid for, husbandry is your job and you did that part. There is also known cases of sperm retention so i would ask the breeder of the female if it was with a non albino male before you received it.

DarienD Jun 03, 2008 05:34 PM

I figured it ut I think. Here is the link to the mothers sister. She is a tremper sunglow.

With the exception of a couple with lighter tails that are hard to tell from the pics, they are just nice hypo tangerines. Where they by chance sold to you as "DH" or "double het" tremper sunglows?

DarienD Jun 04, 2008 12:52 PM

No he told me that they were sunglow and that they came from urban gecko sunglow parents. Are you 100% sure they are not sunglow? Can you call me?

I have to agree with geckomil they look like shtctb hope you got a good price on them considering they are not sunglows. The good news is if you breed an offspring back to the father some will be sunglows i'm not sure of the percentages though.
