Mali Uro - Fat or Bloated?

crisseyg Jun 02, 2008 09:15 PM

My Mali Uro, Rex, who I have had for 5 years, seems a little fatter than usual, and I was concerned he is bloated. Has anyone had issues with bloated Uros before? He is on a strictly vegeterian diet. He recently had cactus, hibiscus flowers, endive, escarole, dried lentils and dried peas (I had water in his cage on the days he got dried peas/lentils).
I am planning on taking him to the vet tomorrow for X-rays. If anyone can offer advice before then, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Could "he" really be a "she" full of eggs? Xrays at the vet should be able to confirm that.

No advice other than the vet visit you're already doing. When was his last bowel movement? Have you double checked his temperatures recently?

How is your Mali doing? I hope my Mali turns out with all the beautiful coloring yours has. I was told mine was a male and should have the brighter coloring.

Rex is doing just fine. There is no doubt that he is male, because I have 2 female Uros and you can see a big difference (so he is not pregnant). I have determined that he is just a big fatso. He eats like a pig and goes to the bathroom regularly. I wasn't concerned until my sister came over and thought Rex looked bloated. But he wasn't.
I attached more pics of Rex, and also of Spike, my Saharan Uro.
