What caging do you use?

ajd Jun 02, 2008 10:42 PM

I have used a mix match of cages and I am now ready to invest some money into getting my snakes into stacking cages and racks. What cages and racks do you use for both hatchlings and adults?

I used to use a hodge podge of homemade stuff, and still am using two homemade racks. But work constraints and a growing family have caused me to dump a bunch into manufactured cages. And man that was a nice idea!

I am using Animal Plastic T10's with sliding windows for my adult females. Awesome material great customer service, excellent product. I choose white which is hard to keep clean and the edges tend to stain, but overall, I'm buying 3 more!

For my Males and grow out Boa's I have a 41qt rack that hasn't been helpful a day in its life. So I contacted Brian Hahn at ARS Caging and had a rack built. It should be here next week if not this friday. I contracted him to build me a mixed racks of 8018's and 7030's 4 and 5 respecably.

As for Hatchlings I have a homemade rack that can hold 20 15qt sterilites or 10 30 qt. It works just fine although my female slugged out this past season so I didn't get the chance to use it.

Cheers

Which cage is best for you will depend a lot on your snake room. A dry cold room would probly not work best with Vision cages, but if you keep your snake room atleast in the mid 70s and humidity above 40% visions would work nicely. I don't have any personnel experience with AP cages, but I know other that have used them love them as well.

Personnel prefernce is also a huge factor. The improvement in cages since 1988 (when I got my first python and boa)has been incredible.

Good luck

Vision racks for babies and sub adults. Boaphile for adults.

As you can see in the photos I use a combination of racks and cages. The Vision rack and cages have been very funtional. Sometime in the very near future I will be purchasing some Boaphile cages and hatchling rack.

Keep in mind those plexi doors junk out pretty quick, primary reason we use glass sliders exclusively.
Animal Plastics for overall,overall.
None of them are perfect, but I'll give the edge to AP.
FWIW The T-10 is a great buy right now!!

like alot here i use AP T25 cages mostly, which is larger then most people but i like how my big females look in the 6' cage. when my collection expends I'd like to get Freedom Breeders Jumbo 48" racks and try those out since i love how they look and to save space

Thanks
Zack

Vision racks and Boaphile cages. I like that the Vision racks can be easily and quickly reconfigured to suit different sized tub and heat requirements. I also use expandable Boaphile cages for the same reason. I can have 4 or 8 foot cages and have the heat sources designed to provide appropriate amounts of heat for either choice.

The showcase in fgs pic sure looks nice. Granted , there are many good cages out there. I use Northwest Constrictors cages. Cages have always been advertised the exact measurements that they are, the owner almost always answers the phone (if not calls right back), doesnt matter if its one cage or fifty he will spendas much time as needed to answer all questions, Cages have always arived in good shape, and when I compare prices I cant get a better price.
