Vision heat rope question?

Norse79 Jun 03, 2008 01:09 AM

I just got the Vision Hatchling Rack Model #15. It is the one that is 15 levels high x 4 wide (60 tubs). It looks great and I'm super excited to get it up and running.

One question... I read a suggestion to lace less heat rope at the top and more at the bottom. This makes complete sense to me since the top racks would be a bit warmer, but I was hoping for some more input on what has worked for anyone else.

As of right now I was planning to lace 3 out of the 4 tracks on the top 2-3 levels and then all four for the rest. Open to suggestions...

Thank you in advance!

I'd have to see it but based on some melamine racks I've setup I'd think the layout would be the opposite in terms of rows with extra heat versus "normal" heat.

In other words I'd suggest putting the bottom 2-3 rows as 5 laces, and up from their 4 laces (or whatever number works for you, maybe even 5 for the bottom 2 rows, then 4 for the middle rows, then 3 for the top 2 rows or some variant thereof).

Reason being the heat will rise up the rack, much like adding an extra row of heat tape to the bottom side of the bottom shelf of a melamine rack.

Personally I'd junk the whole thing and get an ARS rack JK

Your opinions mean nothing to me. You know nothing and I hate you.

I think it really depends on the environment the rack is in - my snake room has a pretty stable temp, the cable is on very little - and there is little difference between the top rack temps and the bottom.

Every snake room environment is different. A temp gun is a must in setting up your heat in the best way possible.

I typically set up a rack, throw the cable down quick and watch it with my temp gun for a day or two and then adjust accordingly.
