Gas prices and snake prices.

kingofspades Jun 03, 2008 08:45 PM

So I thought I'd start a discussion...since we got into it a little before...
with gas prices on the rise, as well as shipping and plastic boxes...
do you think the price of snakes will go up to compensate?
I mean, now that housing and transportation of said snakes is on the rise...it would only seem smart to start charging a little more to make up for losses.

Please discuss, and not fight. haha.

If anything, I think it'll make prices go down. After all, most people are having a hard time keeping up with the extra expenses, leaving them less to save/spend. These animals are only worth what one wants to pay, and if they don't have the funds to drive the market, then the market goes down. Thier are exceptions, but I do think thats going to be the trend untill the economy catches up with itself. Take advantage if your able I guess.

The price of everything is going up -- welcome to the recession -- the snakes that sell will be the ones that are affordable in this economy.

FWIW, I have a buddy that trades the commodities futures and is incredibly successful at it.

He is convinced that $135 on crude oil was the top and he expects oil to trade a lot lower into the election. Today we hit $124 and hopefully by next week we will be considerably lower.

He says that it was all a financially driven paper bubble and that it will unwind faster than it went up.

would have helped me 'stimulate the snake economy' ---
we got 600 less than we expected--- soooo ---- i wasn't able to buy what i wanted-- actually -- i bought nothing with my check-- it all went to bills--- grrr...

I think some morphs will go up-- some will go down.... but i agree with Tosha--- the 'value' and the 'price' of the snakes-- will only be as high as the economy allows it--- -as the economy 'recovers'-- i think the prices will go up--- but right now-- just as many are being bred but not as many sold...

any BIG breeders noticing a difference in sales lately? or are things plugging along like 'normal' ?

for me--- I dont care what gas costs--- i'm broke all the time--- and i'm not walking anywhere-- our public transportation sucks-- so i'm not into that either--- cost me 80$ to fill the suv today-- runs about 120 to fill the truck--- we do it every week--- and sometimes have to top off one or the other about wed. --- AND we just got the suv--- car got stolen-- so we replaced it with somehting bigger-- family doesn't fit in a car anymore---

Gas is gas--- i dont even know how much it is right now--- while it sucks that it cost 80 $ to fill--- it wont stop me-- i'll not be trading in my barge for a potato chip of a car any time soon--- the next thing on the shopping list is a bigger truck actually....

I think prices will drop--- it'll take some time-- but oh well-- what are we goign to do about it?

I gave up on gas prices and got this one last week..It gets 35+mpg AND does 0-60 0.6 sec slower than a 5.0 mustang....Call it Pringles for all i care. :D

Nice car--- My hubby would about die for a little speed-demon like that-- someday.... someday... lol

there's just no way I'd get 4 humans in that-- much less anything else... lol

We haul around dogs on weekends-- as well as the 2 kids---
I can fit 2 big adults, 2 small kids, and up to 5 BIG dogs in the suv-- which is what we needed. -- we foster for german shepherd rescue-- so we have to move dogs a lot-- and I mean A LOT...

Hubby likes the smaller cars-- I don't mind them-- drove a caliber around for a little bit, and a PT cruiser-- just wasn't big enough for the family--

I was thinking something along those lines the other day..Juniors paper bubble burst the ball bubble(among many other bubbles)..So when it bursts(the gas bubble)our ball bubble and all the rest should re-inflate accordingly.

here in italy a couple of months back, ALL the truck drivers went on strike for a week. trucks blocked the roads and parked on the roads making 2 and 3 lane roads down to one lanes. let me tell you it was the worst week i have ever experienced living in italy. within 2 days ALMOST all gas stations were out of fuel,CLOSED. on the thrid day ALMOST all supermarkets ran out of food, CLOSED. on the fourth day the goverment had to give in and honor the truckers request (pay less taxes on fuel for truck drivers) it was so weird i mean trucks just parked out on the middle of the road. if you were a truck driver and decided to work and not strike. the other truck drivers actually made those that worked pull over and park. it was crazy!!!!

point of the story is if everyone unites and not buy gas for a few days, i PROMISE you that they will adjust prices promptly. it's all about money, and when you're not making money you have to adjust to start making it again. this goes for no matter what you do.

stand up for what you believe in!!!!

If Americans were to do what the Italians did, gas would be back at $2 a gallon in months.

Exxon Mobil is busy pocketting 40 billion dollars a year in profits and laughing at how "not so bright" the American public is.

Mike_Russell Jun 04, 2008 06:04 PM

Am I the only one that thinks truck drivers would be arrested if they blocked the highways? If not arrested, the police would step in?

Truck drivers here in the states did this back in the 70s to oppose gas prices then....and if what I am told is true, it worked.

That is what some are blaming it on. I wish I understood how it worked and why the system falls for it.

And, why we give foreign aid to countries we buy such expensive oil from.

pitoon Jun 04, 2008 09:48 AM

Thank these people...........

OPEC

Pitoon

mikebell Jun 04, 2008 10:15 AM

But we also need to blame ourselves. We have oil here, just go and get it. I can understand OPEC looking out for #1. It seems a little hypocritical to ask them to increase production when we won't drill here.

The theory of speculation is a scheme I don't understand. Foreign aid to large oil producers is something I disagree with, but no one has asked for my advice on that.

The governor of Montana was on TV this morning saying they have plenty of oil available, they just need to get it.

pitoon Jun 04, 2008 10:40 AM

well you know what the say about the most effecient means of transportation is...........a bicycle.

i'm seriously considering converting my car to use propane as fuel, it costs half the price of gasoline.

I saw in another post that you were in Italy. I spoke with some diesel mechanics a few months ago, they were commenting on the small diesel engines that are used in Europe. Both small cars and trucks with tiny diesels and great mileage. Are you familiar with any of these?
Mike

Mike_Russell Jun 04, 2008 06:09 PM

Yeah there is oil here. Reminds me of a funny article I read actually.

Some guy in Texas was approached by a local oil company who said he was sitting on oil and asked to drill in his backyard. He said screw that, I'll get it myself! He set up a pump and is pumpin oil all day long now lol.

As long as developing countries continue to become more industrialized, the demand for gas will not slow down. What we really need to do is work on alternative forms of energy. Should have been working really hard on that 10 years ago (or more) but people did not want to take global warming seriously. The best thing Al Gore ever did was make that movie. People finally woke up after he made that.

EricIvins Jun 04, 2008 08:11 PM

The technology for alternative fuel/energy has been around since the 70's. It has been silenced for quite a while; Nothing really to do with global warming or Al Gore, just potential profits from a un-sustainable fuel source.

Mike_Russell Jun 04, 2008 09:14 PM

I was just giving props to Al Gore for bringing Global Warming to light. A lot of people didn't even believe in it, even though every scientist did. Since that movie came out, notice all the green trends in businesses?

jyohe Jun 04, 2008 03:16 PM

.....yes.....!...I want NO foreign aid......

America is getting dumber by the year.....
