Savanah Monitor

About a week ago I was given a Savanah Monitor that looks like its on the verge of dying. It was rescued by a friend that found it in the alley of his apartments by the dumpsters. His tail looked "deflated" in the middle. Then a couple days later, about half its tail came off. It looks very thin. It also looks like its skin is kind of shedding all over the place. It has a six foot cabinet like housing unit. It goes into the water contaner that I put in there, but it won't eat that much. Please help or direct me to someone that will take it. I live in the Bay Area. This monitor needs help imediately. I am scared to touch it because it look so sick. It is about 2 1/2 feet long with the missing half tail.

I would suggest to contact BAARS(Bay Area Amphibian and Reptile Society). They have a reptile and amphibian adoption program. The description of the monitor seems to indicate malnourishment and probable parasites. If possible, the monitor should be brought to a qualified reptile vet for treatment.

If you are having trouble with placement, try posting this on the monitor forum.

Goodluck.
