Provent A Mite?

quasimoto Jun 04, 2008 12:49 AM

Hey guys, I just treated my boa for mites with PAM, as the instructions directed, but i have just one question. After everything is dried and the snake is back in the cage, is it alright for the substrate to get wet again? Its difficult to keep the humidity up in this enclosure, and I usually mist the cage pretty good once or twice a day. Is it ok to do this or will it make the PAM become more dangerous to my snake?

I will mist my cages after using it and I've had no ill effects. Just a tip, try using Equate Bedding Spray from Walmart. You can find it near the lice treatments. $4 a can and the same as PAM.

the bedding sprays have chemical pesticides in it...is that safe for a snake?

The chemical in the bedding spray is the same chemical in PAM in the same quantity. It is safe if it is used in the proper method. The snake must be removed along with the water bowl and not replaced until the spray has dried and there are no remaining fumes.

Permethrin is what the chemical is called. I had the same concerns as far as it getting wet again, but I've never had any issues with spilled water, misting, etc. I've used PAM, and Equate too, but go with Equate now since it's 4 bucks at WalMart, and also since it's what my hero Matt Crabe uses also.
