I still say they look like bubblegum ropes!!!!

When do they turn white? With first shed or does it take a while?

And those are only the breeders

lots.lots.lots feeder mice and rats

Takes quite some time for them to turn completely white.

The scales on them are translucent and what you are seeing is the blood underneath the scales. So as they grow the scales become less translucent and you get a white snake, so they are pink until then.

they look much better when the scales go opaque...as babies the rat snakes look...like icky white worms, such as round worms (an internal parasite). But a great little batch of leucistic rats.

That one you got there is a beauty. They are very nice snakes for sure.

Here is a pic of mom before she laid her first clutch this year. (sorry for crappy pic's, all mine are from my cell phone)

those babies are from a Texas to Texas rat snake breeding.

I have a clutch cooking (30 more or so days) that she was bred a second time this year to an orange rat snake, so the babies will be a generic rat snake. Het for leucism but high orange.

Thanks. Your female is quite nice too. One of these days I will get new pictures of mine. He just isn't one to sit still long enough to take decent pictures of though.

I received him free from a friend who wasn't able to keep him due to moving.

The other rat snake you have looks great too. Babies should be interesting, though they'll look more like normal rat snakes...unless he has hidden hets

Well he is possible het albino and definite het for blotchless, neither should be in the Lucy rat snake mother though.

The male Lucy is a monster and much bigger then the female Lucy and sired her first clutch the ones pictured.

Both are tame and don't bite. Yours is tame as well ?

They have a bad rep that they don't truly deserve IMO.

Here is how I made that orange rat snake in 2003/4 ish :

Father : Het Bubblegum from a bubblegum to an everglades (someone else unknown made him) =

Mother: Blotchless everglades by dwight good =

Neat little pink ropes! Can you make a pic with a quarter or something so we can have a size reference?

So cute! Tiny little pink ropes...adorable.

I got Kali to smile for the camera for you today. I'll download the pix and post them as soon as I get a chance. Been online too long today, burning eye computer geek syndrome prevents me from doing much more right now.

Great pics. Those things are strange, looks like a mess of nightcrawlers. I just assumed they were born white, thanks for sharing. Always something new to learn! Please post pics of them as they start to change color, it would be neat to see them change over time.

Thanks,
Ed

They are actually translucent and the pink is their blood showing thru the scales that haven't got thick enough to block it's view.

And they're beautiful as adults! If I could pry permission for another snake out of my husband (beyond the blood python I'm already set on), I could really go for one of those!

Cute...Is the correct word for them.

Have restraint woman!!!! LMAO

That's what has worked for me so far! The first time I went to buy a snake it was supposed to be the only one and I now have three...soon to be four. But it's hard to wait (said in a whiney voice)!
