So I was checking on the more "brown" of my two cornsnakes today, since he is in shed for the first time since I brought them home. I had a hopper that Eddie refused to eat this afternoon, so I figured maybe that corn might be a little hungry (he was opaque on Saturday, the usual feed day). He didn't want the hopper so I turned to my "orange" garbage disposal. As usual, he was curled up in his tree trunk. I lifted the trunk and looked at him. Lo and behold, his belly is all opaque! I checked my spreadsheet and the last time he shed was the 11th of May... less than a month ago.
Is it normal for neglected animals to shed a little more frequently once they're in better care? I was thinking it might be, since they're trying to grow in some healthy new scales. These snakes are a little old for me to expect them to shed EVERY month. Not like Eddie... he's still such a baby that his sheds are like clockwork. ^_^
I've got damp towels partially covering the corns' lids so they can have a little more humidity and help with their sheds. Before I received them, I don't believe either of them had had a complete shed without it coming off in pieces.
If it wasn't so hot outside, I'd let them chill on the porch, we're sitting at 70%-90% humidity right now.
