exporting from south america

brick1 Jun 04, 2008 01:08 PM

just a query, and im not interested in doing it anytime in the near future, but i was wondering how do people go about exporting WC animals from south america. Im quite against taking snakes from the wild, but understand maybe its the only way to find some new colour morphs etc. I really disagree with what is done with ball pythons, importing that many snakes to the US every year, and selling off for 6 dollars etc is ridicolous, there is enough born in the states to meet demand. And with the amount of colours available now, more and more will still be able to be made with what is available.

as for brazilians, well im sure there IS still some hidden gems out there in the jungle. Im interested into looking into how to export from there, and who you would get in contact with. Maybe just maybe, it could be something i would be interested in doing, quite a few years down the track.

cheers

at the very least, you will need an 'importing' license or permit...probably CITES permit or certificate as well. Other than that, you will have to find a SA exporter. Most have minimum order sizes...

The big exporters of ball pythons tend to export in large 'lots' of 100 or more minimum...mostly of captive hatched babies. Eggs are collected from the wild or gravid females captured then released once they lay eggs. I have to agree though there is more than enough ball pythons to keep the gene pool clean for a long time..

agreed again about the ball pythons. But as for the BRBs, is it worth looking into?. The CITES stuff takes for ages, and its a pain in the arse, but in reality if you fill everything in right on all necessary permits, thats really the easy bit. As for the finding a SA exporter, that the hard bit, any ideas how you would go about finding one?

i mean in just recent years, i know my pearls have come from WC, so of the anery and hypo lines have, fluffy, well nobody seems to know. But guess it means there much untapped stuff out there!! And i wouldnt mind finding some of it
