Advice Needed

When I was a young lad, too many years ago to count, I was a rabid Boaphile.

I can't recall the name of the first book that I read - it was the biography of a BCC told by his owner from birth to death. I was fascinated. I read it dozens of times.

When I was 10 I finally convinced my parents it was a good idea to buy me my first Boa. And they did, for a grand total of $26.

I had him until I got my first girlfriend. lol Then it was either her or him - and he lost. So did my obsessiveness with Boas.

Well two exwives later - I've finally decided to give into my obsession once more.

I've acquired a 5+year old female Red-Tail from a friend of mine. I want to seriously get into collecting and breeding Boas.

I want advice as to where I should start - from the people that know.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Greg

I love boas and i jumped right in. I am glad that i spent way more money on elaborate caging than i did on boas in the beginning. This allowed me to feel comfortable that I am capable of doing it right and gave me more time to put a lot of thought into the particular boas i wanted. Knowledge of genetics and husbandry as well as the resources to house and maintain these animals come first. You will find that as much as changed in the art of keeping these snakes as has changed in the variety of designer animals. They are great pets. have fun

I would suggest a couple of good books that are fairly available... the Boa Constrictor Manual is always a good start and only about $10. Also another good book is the Reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas.

Not sure exactly what specific info you are looking for but there is a ton of valuable information on this very forum which you can find using the search function.

Welcome back to the wonderful world of boas!
