Can I play too...... OMG I'm stoked!!!!

rainbowsrus Jun 04, 2008 08:40 PM

So, last night Brian calls me about his Sunglow Motley litter, way cool and VERY happy for him. Then the thread to end all threads about it, again way cool. Then Jeff posts about one of his girls he "wrote off" as expected to slug out and whoa, there are babies.

So, on my way home I called Brian to let him know our rodent bedding may be in tomorrow (forgot to actually tell him that) And as we're chatting about his litter and asking how the weather is up there on cloud 9, I get hime and walk into my snake room and low and behold........

A female I had written off as not going to give me babies has dropped her "pile of slugs" Except, it's not all slugs, there are babies in there!!! Put Brian on speaker, he got the whole thing live and uncensored. Very small litter, only 4 babies. Mom is a DH snow and dad is a TH moonglow. As I'm looking in, I see albino-ish looking slimers....

One albino, TONS of color, maybe sunglow? Dunno, never had a sunglow baby before. Unfortunately it had not absorbed it's yolk. The yolk sack was darn near the size of the slugs. Brian talked me through tying it off and cutting it away. She looks good but skinny. It is near the front and you can see the yolk

two normals....hypos???

AND

One Snow!!!! or is it a moonglow??? I don't know how to tell the diff so a lil help here.....

And here they all are together.....

Its all part of the game I suppose, sometime you slug out sometimes you get lucky. Maybe this was just the Boa God's way of sayin' you deserve a break.

Talk about keepers not often does a litter give you the answer to which ones to keep. With 4 the anwser is simple all of them!!

I'm eagerly awaiting Vanilla's delivery perhaps Spirt may grace you with a litter as well.

By the way I figured out those names, Joyce and Sandra.....(Dave's so high on cloud 9 he probably has no idea what I'm talking about...LOL)

I wouldnt doubt that for a second Dave. I am sure I would be the same way especially after not expecting a litter from her anyway. My question is this, did you just feed her as you would for getting her ready for the up coming season? I have a sunglow I don't think took and I am in that current dilemma myself!

rainbowsrus Jun 04, 2008 11:14 PM

two days ago I ran my new fetal heart monitor over her and found nothing, she didn't "look" gravid, does not even look skinny now. I figured she didn't take and had re-absorbed. She was litterally on the feed tonight list!!!

Wow, was just talking with my wife and to put it in perspective, between mom and dad there were 5 morph genes and 7 normal genes available...

2 albino
2 anery
1 hypo

That little one got ALL 5 of the available morph genes!!!!

I can only say the same as everyone else... HOTT D@MN! You really got awesome odds on such a small, unexpectedly unexpected litter (that wasn't as bad as you thought, I might add)!

I couldn't tell you the diff. from a moonglow and snow for certain either, but if I had to guess, I'd second everyone else's on it. The pattern is very hypo-esque and it is so lavender.... I'd say moonglow too! Very nice score!

Keep us updated on how they do... more pictures and I'd like to hear how well they absorb the yolk for you!

Great luck and good luck!

Definitely a moonglow! HUGE congrats Dave - way to beat those odds ! Best of luck with that little moonglow (and the others too) - I can't wait to see some post-shed shots...I hope the rest of your litters are even more rewarding for you!

Congrats Dave. Those are awesome odds. Not that you need it at this point, but I say moonglow due to the saddle shape. Congrats.

Yeah I think the jury is in on that one!!! This is soooo cool!!!! It's litters like this that make up for all the not so good ones!!!!

Congrats Dave! That is awesome! Be careful you don't push Brian off of Cloud 9 while you're up there! Looks like a Moonglow to me, very pretty! What is up with all the killer litters here in the Bay? Something in the water? I should have bred something this year too lol!
Take care!

Hey April, Thanks!!!

Plenty of room on the cloud for both of us. Funny thing is I was (and still am) so happy for Brian with his Motley Sunglow!! I'mm going over to his place this weekend to check out his babies, should be fun!!!

shhhhh, don't tell anyone but I have one more solid BCI litter in the works along with a few "gave up on" ones. We all know what happened with my last "gave up on" one!!!

Well John, Honestly, I appreciate all the support from the community!!!! Yesterday was an awesome day and I love sharing it with others!!!

When I started with my BRB's many years ago there was no internet, no forums, much less info available. Had to figure out much of the breeding process on my own. This forum has been a serious source for receiving and sharing info for me and others.

Hey Dave-

He / She is definately a MOONGLOW. Talk about the odds being on your side!! I'm glad the pair worked out for you. Post more pics once they all shed!

All the best with them!
Ryan DeCaro

rainbowsrus Jun 05, 2008 09:58 PM

Hey Ryan, Thanks so much for that "loaded" pair!!! As you can see they both proved out as advertised. I was pretty surprised, first that there was anything, she really did not have that gravid look, second that there were live babies and WOW there was a moonglow in the mix!!

that's a Moonglow. I hope all those gravid females give you a lot of babies. It was nice to put faces with names at the BBQ. See you next year.

rainbowsrus Jun 07, 2008 01:14 PM

Thanks, Definitely a moonglow, I just was not positive and could not believe my luck!!! 1/32 odds hitting in a four baby litter!!! My BCI season is almost done, not as many litters as I hoped for but I'll take whatever I can get!!!!

My BRB birthing season will start in a few months and those I've been breeding for years and am sure I have many nice litters cooking in the ovens!!!
