OT babies today!!!!!

rainbowsrus Jun 04, 2008 08:48 PM

So, last night my friend Brian Gundy calls me about his litter with a Sunglow Motley, way cool and VERY happy for him. Then the thread to end all threads about it, again way cool. Then Jeff Ronne posts today about one of his girls he "wrote off" as expected to slug out and whoa, there are babies.

So, on my way home I called Brian to let him know our rodent bedding may be in tomorrow (forgot to actually tell him that) And as we're chatting about his litter and asking how the weather is up there on cloud 9, I get hime and walk into my snake room and low and behold........

A female I had written off as not going to give me babies has dropped her "pile of slugs" Except, it's not all slugs, there are babies in there!!! Put Brian on speaker, he got the whole thing live and uncensored. Very small litter, only 4 babies. Mom is a DH snow and dad is a TH moonglow. As I'm looking in, I see albino-ish looking slimers....

One albino, TONS of color, maybe sunglow? Dunno, never had a sunglow baby before. Unfortunately it had not absorbed it's yolk. The yolk sack was darn near the size of the slugs. Brian talked me through tying it off and cutting it away. She looks good but skinny. It is near the front and you can see the yolk

two normals....hypos???

AND

One Snow!!!! or is it a moonglow??? I don't know how to tell the diff so a lil help here.....

All four together....

I'm digging this morph thing where you just don't know what you're going to get till they come out!!!!

what were the actual odds of getting a moonglow out of the litter? ie if you had had a 32 little clutch?

in a DH x TH litter of 32 with perfect genetic outcomes, there would be ONE!!!

... the odds of a moonglow from crossing the moonglow to a DH would be 1/8. If moonglow to TH then odds would be 3/16.

Wow, congratulations. Awesome litter. I wish I could help, but I have no clue how to tell a sunglow from an albino or a moonglow from a snow. I've asked a few people, but the answers vary!
Good luck with them!

Thanks,
Ed

You will know if and when that happens again, you where thinking moonglow anyway's but needed/wanted clarification due to the obscurity and rarity of seeing one as a newborn.

Snows lack that extreme lavender look.

You have educated all of us including yourself.

Nobody see's those often even from triple het to triple het breedings!!!!

-----
Aubrey Ross

rainbowsrus Jun 05, 2008 12:11 AM

Moonglow is Albino + Anery + Hypo In BCI Albino and Anery are recessive while Hypo is dominant so sum total is 5 morph genes to get a moonglow (2-Albino, 2-Anery and 1-Hypo) Mind blowing part is between both parents there was a sum total of 5 morph genes available. YEAH, that means that baby got every morph gene available!!! Talk about hitting the jackpot

The funny thing is that in upper division math you pretty much stop using numbers and most arithmetic. Upper division is all proofs. It's actually hella funny watching last semester math students trying to do arithmetic because they have to struggle to remeber stuff from highschool.

Obviously it's not beginner's luck for an old snake hand like you! But what an amazing surprise to come home to! I'm sure you're glowing even more than that moonglow right now! Post pictures as the babes start to grow---wait, I don't need to tell YOU that!

>>One Snow!!!! or is it a moonglow??? I don't know how to tell the diff so a lil help here.....
>> >>
>>I'm digging this morph thing where you just don't know what you're going to get till they come out!!!!

Thanks Jason/Milo

you can tell because of how thin the saddles are on the body. But you may want to ask someone that has bred them before and not someone that has just stared at pictures of them hahaha.

I second the moonglow, but you may have to wait and see if she colors up at all or not. I've also never had one, but I've got my baby ghost het moonglow and hope to be in your position someday. Let us know what the verdict is on the boa forum! Oh and CONGRATS!! What an awesome looking litter, however small it may be!
