Unicolor hatching today

Sighthunter Jun 05, 2008 09:25 AM

Although I had some things that bummed me out this year I also had a few successful ventures. All 13 Uni eggs were good and plump using coconut husk to incubate. I incubated the eggs at 80F and had no kinks. The hatchlings all come out with attitude so I am hopeful that they will all feed. In addition to the Unis I sucessfully bred and hatched a Peruvian Aplomado falcon this year.

Here is a picture showing plump eggs right to hatch. Notice how dry the coconut looks, look where the sun is shining. Here is a shot of the Aplomado as well………….Bill

Very nice looking little guys! Beautiful raptor also. Ive aways wanted to get into falconry...I just know I dont have the time needed to care for such an extensive project. Congrats on your babies...feathered and scaled.

Congrats to you for both clutch Bill... And please talk to us a little more about anything new with on your side with the TOIDS.
Take care!

She got TOIDS and real sun. The hatchlings all came out fighting and hyper with no kinks. All of the eggs were fertile and stayed plump right until they hatched.

My theory on kinks goes something like this,

To make a perfect hatchling snake you need nutrition. Let us say nutrition for a snake is U,V,W,X,Y,and Z

You can make a hatchling with X,Y and Z but if U,V and W are lacking or missing, the eggs and hatchlings might not reach their full potential. Say a shortage of U causes kinks but if you grow them slower at a lower temperature then no kinks. I have hatched racers at 92F without kinks. I tested my TOIDS on hatchling starlings this year and grew um to adulthood so it has proven to be perfect gut load for snakes.

Congratulations, Bill!

The hatchlings look absolutely beautiful, and I hope they feed well for you.
Great job with the falcon as well; that is an amazing animal.
