What type of Hypo Bullsnake

SeanMenke Jun 05, 2008 03:27 PM

Hey folks, I was hoping someone with a bit more experience in identifying different lines of bullsnakes would be willing to say what type of hypo bullsnake they thought this was. I picked her up in a pet store in San Diego about a year ago, and I failed to find out if she was a Stillwater or Colorado. I would appreciate any input people may have.

its the same as this one.
this strain is highly variable.
my male is bright yellow with goldish blotches.
i have seen dark ones and light ones in the same clutch.

so what strain is that?

zhaa Jun 05, 2008 11:33 PM

The short answer is that I'm not sure... the longer answer is... I got my breeders about 8 years ago or so from a guy in Des Moines named Mark Rouw. They were hatchlings at the time and the clutch was extremely varied in color. I think he said the strain originated in Kansas, but it may have been Colorado. I don't think that he routinely monitors this forum, but John Meltzer probably knows the story (he may even have been involved some how) and/or Paul Hollander might know as well. Sorry about the fuzzy memory... too much water under the bridge anymore...- Jim

>>so what strain is that?

Like yours, the previous poster just has a regular hypo. NOT Stillwater. That's my firm guess.

oh yeah... you're right. I've got Stillwaters too that I got from Ginter and they are much different. Much more consistent and more "dramatic" in their appearance.

Its just called a generic line or Trumbower. If its not stillwater (and its not) then its the generic line.
