Wow, that is beautiful!

My Eastern Sydney would love that. She was collected from some woods near my sister's house in Alabama less than a year ago, so she would love it in there. My redfoots live in something similar to that, and I thought about putting the ornate and eastern both in there but my big male redfoot (12 inches) wouldn't like it, he just barely tolerates the female redfoot, and I her got before him.

It's beautiful! Thanks for sharing! I have a question about that fence. My boxies would put her head through there and keep trying to get through it. Does your boxie do that?

they use to do that many years ago try to stick there head through the fence when i first put them in there but not any more i guess they have got use to it and know now that area belongs to them, you know box turtles are very smart especially when they have become domesticated they almost act like dogs and cats very smart for instance if my male turns over on his back he knows and waits for me to come and turn him over. heres one you wont believe i use to let them run around my apartment when i lived in the city in a two bedroom apartment do you know my turtles would go roaming around the whole house and then when they got hungry, on there own, believe me they would go to the kitchen and eat the dog food out of the food bowel then be sitting in the dogs water bowel afterwards. I love my turtles there like my best friend.

Thats a great looking set up. Do your BTs go into the little turtle house in the back corner at night?
The apartment story reminds me of when i was a kid, one of my friends parents had 2 box turtles that they had since before we were even born and they let them have free run of the house with the cat and they would share food and water.
It's a good thing your dog didn't have an appetite for turtle, one of my good friends had an adult painted turtle, untill one day just this spring his yellow lab decided to eat it, and yes he had fed his dog that morning, he came home from work and all he found was a few guts and pieces of shell on the ground, very sad, he was quite upset, but what do you do, it's not the dogs fault.

not me my turtles they have been around almost 24 years with me even through friends and two marriages and there were more dogs that i have had that came and went and each one that i had had big or a puppy always was shown the turtles and believe me they never touched them or they were gone and some were. i always introduced another animal to my turtles and they have always respected them. shoot the dog that i have now he does not let any other animal near the turtles cage especially at night there protected 24 hours a day with a doggie door.

boxienuts Jun 07, 2008 08:12 AM

OOOOh that's a doggie door, my mistake, I thought it was a door to a turtle house, like I have seen in tortois set-ups in the south. heeh, so do your BT's use it to come in and out of the house or garage?

thats the turtles house the doggie door is on the oposite side of my house that leeds into the back yard

boxienuts Jun 07, 2008 08:23 AM

OK that is a turtle house in the back left corner of the pic, so does the turtle house have a light bulb in it and do the boxies use it at night. I've been toying with that idea, because our springs nights are so cool here, it would help extend their season of activity.

it has a light but no heat they actually go in there when its really hot out side because its cool in side but a heat bulb could be put inside if i wanted. actually that whole area has night time lights that light up at night when it turns dark out side.
