Gravid female acting/looking weird

dragonfamiliar Jun 05, 2008 10:35 PM

We took our beardie Karma to a reptile store in daytona 3 weeks ago to mate with one of their males. up to then we thought she was a normal. We found out, since she dwarfed their male that she was a german giant. She was there for a week and we picked her up just 2 weeks ago expecting not to feel eggs for 3 or 4 more weeks, but...... she's definitely gravid, marble sized lumps in her belly... but she's acting strange. not digging but semi lethargic, not eating, and more odd is her color change, she's looked like every german giant up till now, just kinda shades of brown.. but the last couple days her beard's been super dark, and today her shoulder blades and part of her pattern on her upper back have gotten super dark, but the rest of her has lightened up alot, almost yellow looking. and the last half of her tail got super dark... it looks pretty cool but we don't think she should be laying this soon (unless she happened to start to develop eggs early and we happened to breed her in the middle of it) so is there something else that could cause such an odd color/mood change or is she probably just about to lay?

I have a female that has only 13-15 days between clutches so she could be ready. I'm concerned that she is lethargic though. Mine generally are very active looking for a place to build a nest. At very least I get her in a nest box with a starter hole right away. I would also make sure she is hydrated. Give her a bath or give water with an eyedropper. Dehydrated dragons will be very lethargic.

I would also consider bringing her to a reptile vet. BD's in distress have light colors with very black beards.
