Nice photo. I didn't realize any male Crotaphytus species obtain the orange coloration during breeding season? Interesting! What others do that?

I'm enjoying seeing that color in my female now. The orange color really adds nice contrast to their colors

The youngsters, (male) hatchlings and juveys can have oranage stripping up until they are 9 months sometimes off and on brighter at times. This is a natural defense or trick so to speak so the BIG adult males think they are a gravid female and leave them alone.

Keeps them safe for a while anyway from the BIGGIES ! Isn't nature something, tries to give us all a fighting chance, lol.
