My Lizard won't eat please Help!!!

Jordana Jun 06, 2008 09:18 PM

I have this little lizard that I bought from some guy off Kijiji, Well he said it was a baby Armadillo Lizard. I've had him Since I believe April but he hasn't gotten any bigger. I sent the picture of him to some guy who use to breed them and he said it's a Cordylus tropidosternum. I'm not sure what he is. He can't be more that 3 cm I think(not good with the mesurements). Well I had him on a 75watt bulb, in a 10 gallon tank, He was doing Great, eating pretty much everyday, big crickets with Multi vit dust on them. The bulb burned out about a month ago and I put a 60 watt bulb in there, this week I bumped it up to a 65 and now I just bought the 75 watt again. When he had the other light he seemedto hide more. He stopped eating for now at least a week. It's at least 118F in the hot Side and 83.9F in the colder side(that's what it would have been before as well when he did well. I don't know what to do to get him to eat anything. Anyone what to see a picture let me know and I can email it to you. I Don't want him to die please help me!!

Hi!
What you're describing is common with african monitors, too. When their temperatures drop they'll usually head for cover and wait for better conditions.

Get the temps and humidity to where it should be and be sure it has a proper basking spot temperature, too. It may take a few days or even a week of proper temps for it to begin it's regular feeding and basking. You'd be surprised how long a healthy lizard can go without eating, but make sure it stays hydrated by either soaking or drinking.

A lot of reptiles will do basically the same thing when their conditions aren't right. Just get the conditions right and offer it some food every now & then until it begins to get back to it's normal routine.

Hang in there!
