Good looking tort. How big is he/she and have you had it since hacthling and obtained that size in two years. I have one also and have recently encountered a problem where it's gone "off" it's feed. I took it to the vet and he said that there was noting pathologic with it and that it was perfectly fine (stool test negative). Have you experienced this with yours and also what is your diet and conditions that you keep it in. Thanks in advance.
Hi when I first had him, he was much smaller. not exactly a hatchling, but small. I'll try and post pic after I get back.
none of my tort has ever gone off feed.they sometime eat less, sometimes even only a couple of bites.but never off feed.
how big is ur radiata? where are u located?is he housed indoor or outdoor?pls post pic if possible.
my radiata eats the least, relative to size, compared to sulcata, indianstar, and my baby leopard.
forgot to mention he is put outside in a planted tub 1m X 0.5m .as u can seeon the pic he has grasses he can munch on, but his favorites are hibicus flowers and carrots(only given once in a while). I also give him hibiscus leaves, mullbery leaves, and grape leaves. He doesn't really like opuntia pads, but he'll eat a bite or two.
pls post a pic of ur enclosure
Thanks for your advice. I live in Houston, TX area and have had the tort since 2/03. I got her at 9 cm and 150 gm. In the beginning she has has always eaten well and very aggressively. She was mixed in with my baby Leopards that I hatched last season. Unfortunately, she wouldn't grow and so I took to the vet and found out she had worms (appears she came to me that way... which didn't make me happy). I treated her with Panacur and she great. Seperated her from the leopards (since they to became infected) and increased her diet. After treatment, she exploded in weight and size. She now is 10 cm and weighs 260gm. She has become much more domed and very beautiful. I use to feed her weeds like dandelions and clover and constant optuntia, shich she all loved very much. But over the past two months, there is no more dandelions and the opuntia supplier no longer carries it. Therefore she has gotten hibiscus and romaine and occas fruit. She was going outside also but never eats grass. So in two months her feed has gone off. Specifcally, she will eat 1/3 of her greens and also 2 pellets of mazuri daily (and only when I hand feed it). So, she is not refusing food, but she is not as voracious as prior. I took her to the Vet and he saids she looks great. Fecal float showed 3 small ova but he doubts this is a pathologic burden. He thinks she just find, but recommended retreating her for worms (which I'm planning to do). Also, I'm planning to spruce up her enclosure and decrease the amt of active UV heat (since I think the hot weather is factoring into her decrease appetite). Her weight is stable and no runny nose , stool firm, etc. I would like to post pics of her and the enclosure but I can't post it... so can you give me your e-mail and I will send it tonight. I would be interested in further pics of your specimen and so my email is bvpham@utmb.edu. Do you have another Radiated and whre did you get yours from. Thanks for your response. Binh
