what do they eat

redcivic Jun 07, 2008 09:07 AM

I just received two florida scarlet king snakes as pets. I think i've had just about every other snake imaginable except for a king snake. One of the two is very small, probably close to a newborn. The other is definitely close to being full grown. What is recommended for these things to eat. Probably a pinky mouse for the big one but i've never had a snake as small as the small one that i have. any info would be greatly appreciated.

Scarlet kings are for advanced keepers with patience (Which i DONT have!!,as far as secluded cage. VERY finicky eatters and babies are tiny and supossidly feed on grubs ect. as they are mostly found in tree bark....
Let me finish with if wild caught multiply hard x10 ,,if captive bred multiply hard x 8.......
definitly not for novice or semi experienced...factors are many..

some folks on here do keep them ...hope they chime in....Chris

get a Fla King LOL they ARE good eatters.......mice rats .anything that moves

Let's try this:
for the adult, a plain small defrosted pink in the hide overnight first. If that's refused, brain a fresh thawed pink and leave it overnight. Adults are reasonably quick to accept thawed mice but some are not and may require some work with lizard scenting or live tiny newborn mice.

The youngster should take pink heads overnight in the hide. If yours is stubborn you may have to figure out how to force feed a few tails into him for awhile.

Elapsoides def prefer a tight hide and you may never see them out prowling around. Once feeding, it's relatively easy to keep them fat and healthy with a good meal every week. Very few will be calm to handle but they're stunning little snakes that can do very well in captivity.
