The Utah Youngins

Eve Jun 07, 2008 09:49 AM

Here's a couple spectacular youngins, juveys, that arrived with the bigger boys, Little Mohegan and Ho'nehe. My eyes have been treated to such beauty over the years with collareds, lol

hey eve how do you name your lizards? it seems your using Native American words for all of your lizards. How do you remember all of those names. where do you find them and how do you know what they mean? its cool and very unique. I name mine after well whatever pops into my head. stevie- steve erwin (the man, made me interested in reptiles) lizzy(cute and ironic, bit of a cliche)-Ike- (Dwight D. eisenhower, im a history major)) and adrien (addie) cuz i like Rocky, LOL.
but your names have a pretty cool theme going on, shed some light on that!! later. took me a week to ame the last two i got, you seem to have names ready for the lizards!! by the way very good looking lizards! later

I use them on most all my collareds, only a few that have come to me through adoption that had names already or KONG, because he was just a huge monster of a guy when I got him years ago.

Most collareds come from locales that Indians once or still are living. I have always admired the American indians for their love and respect of nature/animals. Even the ones they killed were all used for their needs, and they gave thanks to the animal. They have bonds to the wolves, horses and bear and so forth.

I have from a child loved the painted/or pinto horse you so often see in pictures / movies that the indians kept. And another thing, lol personal, I loved the squaws hair as a kid, and to this very day I have waist length dark hair

I use either tribal names, locales, rivers named for them, or indian words. I have found and done much investagation, hehehhee to find them, different ones that appeal to me and seem to fit each lizards, The new yellows, all will be named with words that mean wolf.

One of the big new yellers is named Tamaska ( strong wolf) then the little ones named Mohegan and Ho'nehe meaning wolf in different Indian tribal languge.

There ya have it. Eve's American Indian names for her collareds.

Eve, I feel the same way! My healthy female is named Talulah from either the Cherokee or Choktaw (both of which I have in me) word for leaping water. Nothing would suit her more!

My little mali is named Ngozi, which means blessing in the African area where malis originate. Taz was named before he was given to me.

I would have named my beardies after aussie aboriginal names and places, but have had a really hard time finding tribal languages and names from there. So, they are like the colonized ones with eurowestern names.
