3 legged frog?

graffitiraptor May 23, 2003 11:59 AM

I took some frog spawn from my pond so the ducks/fish would not eat it. About 6 of the tadpoles are in a breeding trap in my fish tank and they are growing realy fast. They have got got back legs but i noticed one had grown its front legs and as i was looking at it i noyiced on of its back legs had been biten of just below the nee.should i get rid of it as it would have no chance in the wild with only 3 legs or as its legs are still developing is there even the smallest chance it will grow back?

Tadpols and frog do not regenerate back missing appendages, a process called autonomy. If you like, you keep that one as pet. it very likely that it will eaten by other animals.

Tadpoles do have the capacity to regenerate limbs before metamorphosis. Keep an eye on it and see how it does.

I would keep it and see how it does. Maybe one limb is slower in developing? I have read posts on here about some girl finding a three legged adult toad in the wild, dont know if it was like that from birth but it could feasably survive. Either let it go with the others or keep it as a longterm captive, is my advice.
