Please help with new baby Boa

glitterlust Jun 08, 2008 04:33 AM

Ok first off i know i posted this earlier but i forgot to ask something so i am posting again, plus i have new pics to help you help me out.

Okay my new baby boa i just receaved for free from a friend. Her boyfriend bred snakes and wanted to start breeding boas, and he had bought a pair and he decided not to breed them and couldn't keep them any longer so i took it.

He said he is was a true BCC and not a Common BCI. Honestly when i first saw him i thought it was anery, but since he is mainly copper/fawn color that i figured that couldn't be right. Someone mentioned maybe Hog-Island and i have seen a few that did indeed look like mine, but i wanted to be sure. I used to have a BCI and i had her until she got around 10ft and so now one of my best friends is taking care of her since i just don't have the room right now, but i will be moving in about a year so i will be able to take both with me. Anyway (off subject) My BCI was had more strikeing colors and had a much brighter tail. Don't get me wrong i think the new baby is beautiful and i think the copper on his head (never seen that before) is gorgious and it draws your eyes to his head.

here is is new pic i took just now, as u can see is he mainly tan, brown, fawn, and very pastel colors with pastel pink under her/him

This next pic of his belly. He has this when i got him. Its very rough. Would this mean he was burned or something at one point or is it something else? Its only on like a 3 inch area. the rest of him is fine.

Please let me know what you think he is

It is possible that he had a heat source that was available for him to reach and rested on it for just long enough to damage his underbelly. As much as I don't like to admit it, I had a similar thing happen to a snake that never seemed to leave the cage floor, but naturally... just because it hasn't, doesn't mean it won't and I had taken too much time finding a shroud for the Ceramic heat emitter. He only did it once, but it left the underbelly and scales off-color and rough for awhile. It eventually shed away. If yours is only rough with discoloration, and there is no blistering, I believe (IMO) it will shed off eventually.
Other than that... as others have said regarding your snakes lineage, there is often no way to know with any guarantee if it is BCC or another locale unless you can contact or track down more knowledgeable previous owners (from before the guy you got him from)or, even better, the breeder. It does resemble a Hog island in my eyes... but even a crossbreed can take on most of one parents traits, so there is really no way to be positive without a more reliable voice on the matter.
Good luck with a very neat little snake...

This is one of my lighter, more colorful, hogs as a baby... Peaches. My male is a more common-looking example of a Hog Island, but I can't find his pictures.

Her a year later...

My adult female nesting...

that yellow/rust color your hogs have (btw are beautiful) is basicly the same colors mine has. Except a lil more Red(ish) Rust on his head. But the body is tan/yellow/fawn color even down to the tail where it gets a lil darker but not much..

Honestly it doesn't matter to me, but i want to breen eventually and unless i buy my own mate its going to be hard to find someone who would breen with him/her without true identification..

He/she has NO spurs what so ever.. i have dug and dug and i still can't see any. Would this mean femail? its about 20inches long i would say (estimate)
