Egg Advice ASAP

FatBoyBallPython Jun 08, 2008 09:28 AM

I have a 4 egg clutch in the incubator. One piped this am. 3 of the eggs are dimpled and the 4th is like a ballon. It not dimpled at all. The snake looks fine because I can see him moving around when I candle. What should I do, leave it alone of cut it. It looks like if I cut it it would explode! LOL Please give me some input on this egg.

LOL...I'm just saying...

And having said that, I do cut eggs that haven't pipped on their own after most have pipped and several of their clucthmates have left the egg. Never before.

Go ahead and cut...not all eggs dimple. I've got a pair of pointed end tweezers that's handy for cutting those...makes a little prick so you can get in with your scissors.

I cut all my eggs at day 56 and have great success, although I do not poke and prod them to get a better look.

Even if you are not a fan of cutting eggs, I don't think it would be a bad idea to cut the plump one and let a little fluid seep out to minimize the risk of drowning.

Good luck, post pictures when they hatch.

I cut it...A lot of yolk came out with the pressure. I will let you all know when the snake appears.

Hope it was the clear stuff, and not actual yolk...

FatBoyBallPython Jun 08, 2008 12:49 PM

Yes it was clear...I guess I called it yolk because it was thick and looked like the white yolk of chicken eggs. I'm guessing the actual YOLK of snake eggs is yellow? and the clear part is fluid? I have heard lots of people talk about the snake staying in the egg and absorbing the "yolk" and all I have ever seen after cutting eggs is clear fluid. So I was refering to the fluid as yolk.

Yeah...I assume the fluid that you are referring to is analogous to the "white" of a bird egg (the yellow part is the yolk, the clear is the "white". Same texture and consistency. I've never been inside a healthy snake egg, so I have no idea what color the yolk is. I think its fairly safe to assume it may be yellow...

I have been reading this forum for a while about if to cut or not to cut. So this year I decided to cut a clutch of Pastel's.
When I cut the egg's at day 55 all the babies wher still in their sac inside the egg, now they are all out and everything is fine I found no reason not to cut if that is what you want to do.
If one is pipped you should cut the rest just in case they are ready to come out but can't. Hope this help's. JONAS
