Double Axanthics....

primevalbeauty Jun 08, 2008 01:01 PM

Just outta curiousity. Has anyone produced a double axanthic, combining two different lines? Say Jolliff/VPI. Be interesting to see the outcome. My imagination gives me a picture of a gorgeous axanthic, though mother nature often has her own agenda!

And the general answer is "idunno". There are some logistical problems. Lets say you breed visuals from two different lines. The resulting babies are double hets. You then breed the double hets together. Any visuals produced could be one line, the other, or both, and you'd have no way of knowing. If you breed a double het offspring to a parent, you still get no further info. I think this dilemma is at the heart of the problem...

You would think that the double axanthic would be more pronounced, but then again On the other hand , the double recessive of two very similar traits, combined with other morphs, could get so muddled and messy, just trying to figure out which trait went which way, now that I think about it, no wonder it's not a hot new morph already. Makes you wonder if it would be a worthwile project or a collossal waste of good axanthics -

I have a 2007 male pastel axanthic that I got from Mike Jolliff. This snake was produced using both VPI and Jolliff line axanthics. Visually we don't know if it is het for one line and visual for the other or visual for both lines. I plan on breeding him to visual females of both lines to see which line(s) he is. I guess only time will tell.
