How many of you guys have had Pits double clutch without 2nd breeding? Just had a Cape Gopher do it...12 eggs 1st time and so far 7 for the 2nd. Pic of dad.

Two years ago I had the same thing happen with my vertebralis. Albino male with a normal unrelated female. Got six good eggs in the first clutch and a second clutch of 4 that all went bad. I also didn't reintroduce the male. I was definitely not happy about the second clutch because the female had only eaten four meals after her first and I though I was going to lose her. Luckily she pulled through and put on weight quickly.

Luckily my girl looked pretty good after the first 12...and really doesn't look any worse for wear now (5 good 3 slugs) but she is young...first year breeding. I'm just glad I caught her in time...lost a Corn clutch to the water bowl like that last year.

Hi,
I had one fertil doubleclutching without a second mating after the first clutching. It was last year und my Pit. c. pumilus did it.
The first in ... about 50-100 doublecutchings of Pituophis at all.

Hi,
I think we are maybe 5-10 "hardcore keepers" in Germany and even much more people who keep a few of it. Pituophis are not the most seen (and bought) snakes here - but for example my friend Dieter Hirschkorn and I - we fight for this genus 
He keeps a lot of ssp. and specimen - and I do the same.

I had a bull lay 10 eggs and 2 went bad. She did not lose any weight and started to swell back up again.So I put the male back in no luck breeding 
she layed 21 slugs second clutch.

I had a female lay 9 good eggs this year without seeing a male. Nearly a year and the sperm was still good. (not a double clutch, but should prove it can be done without reintroducing the male)
