Well my female BRB stopped eating....

FRoberts Jun 09, 2008 08:04 PM

Probably just not hungry. But her and the male bred for 6 months and she is HUGE and SOLID but not gravid looking. Well over the 5 pound mark. But I can usually tell if a snake is gravid, but ya never know.

Here is a few off topic pic's I took today of my Female Dumeril's Boa whom I believe is going to drop sometime soon, or she is faking it by acting and looking VERY gravid. Almost looks uncomfortable at times.

She got me checking on her like 10 times a day minimum!!!

Let's hope she's got some snakey-buns in the oven! Congrats on the Dumeril's; I've always loved those!

Gravid BRB's can be difficult to ID, many are just like you say, solid and large. The key point for me is they go off feed (for the most part) and quite often actually gain weight. Ultimately losing some before giving birth and losing a LOT giving birth

Good luck on those "old" Dum's!!

Yeah you would not believe their age if you saw and held them, as solid a 5 year old snake. No even a remote loss of muscle tone or strength. Most litters that play out with dumeril's are with older females and it seems that any females younger then 5 or 6 only drop a few babies for most people.

I am the second owner of the pair. I tried acquiring them in 1989 but couldn't. I finally got them in 2001. Had a rocky seven years with the booze and am out of the funk and breeding again.

If all goes well this year I have bred a species of Boa, Python, and Colubrid. Good start!!!

I had bred a few while I was drinking (luckily) mainly rat snakes, Northern Pine snakes and Brb's. But don't really remember much about it LOL!!!

LOL "But don't really remember much about it" Booze has a tendency to do just that!!!

So glad you've cleaned up your act. Been there, done that in my youth (stinking drunk among other things) but the demon never quite got ahold of me. I was lucky!!
