Breeding one time??

heffner2212 Jun 10, 2008 12:40 AM

Hi I was just wondering, I have a male tic hes a little over a year old. My friend has a female 3 years opld. If I were to cycle my male one time and breed him once. Will he expect it every year?? Will it mess up his feeding, and things like that?
thanks
Mike

No it won't mess him up but what size are the snakes in question ? That will be the issue. Your male also may still be a lil young.

ok so your thinking about crossing one of the smallest python breeds with the absolute largest python breed??? you might want to rethink your math!!!!!!!!

Min. Reccomended weight on breeding female balls is usually 1200 grams. 900 may work but if you intend to cross those to I'd start looking for a solid 5 ft female ball. I'd also not use a normal male, I'd look into one of the dwarf locallities. Good Luck...

I'd say that female ball is way to small and that male tic is too small and too young as well. I've seen 8ft male tics breed but they were old males that just weren't fed alot or were dwarf locallity animals. My smallest female ball to ever produce eggs was just over 1100g at the beginning of breeding season and she fed all the way up until she ovulated at which she was just over 1300g and she gave me 5 good eggs. Now you must realize that with hybrids your amount of good eggs is going to be dramatically lower so using a female ball you may never get a good egg even over a few years of trying the cross. I myself am down to 1 retic (an amel tiger female) and she was going to be used for a bateater project, then I was going to get rid of her due to the new florida laws, but now I think an amel tiger retic x pastel ball python hybrid would be really cool and am keeping her (yes I know alot of people don't like hybrids but I do and I don't tell you what to do in your house).
