Hondo Morph Info, Please...

Dan_W Jun 10, 2008 01:59 AM

What is the hypo morph in which the hondo has nice wide red saddles, white saddles about half as wide, and thin black bands on the periphery of the white saddles? I think this animal is beautiful, and most I've seen have very symmetrical banding, which I prefer.

Do these have a tendency to stay clean as adults, especially if the parents don't show any black tipping?

Thanks, guys!

Sounds to me like you are talking about a tricolor.

Thin black bands would be what we call pinstripes although they are technically "pinbands".

Hypos would be the ones that stay clean as adults but they all vary to some degree.. you can have normals that stay clean and some hypos can get a lot of tipping also.

Thanks, Jon...! Yeah, the ones I've seen were similar to the animal in the photo, but the white area was white, with no black tipping whatsoever. I can't show the photos, as they are not mine.

That snake is an adult normal .. young hypo tricolors show no tipping whatsoever.

This one is drop dead gorgeous...! I have until September when a friend picks up a hondo for me in Hamm to decide if I want an albino tangerine or a hypo. The one in the photo above this post is an exceptional example. When an adult remains immaculately clean and is 4' or 5' long, it's hard to beat.

Thanks a lot for the photo. How big is he/she?

These may have a little red tipping or grey .. no black though.

Adult tricolor hypos with NO tipping are hard to come by. Its not uncommon for them to have red/grey/black tipping on the cream coloured bands. I'm not sure but I think even the extreme tricolors tip up with reddish or greyish colours? Somebody can correct me if I am wrong.

These are all really nice animals, Jon! Too bad that a hypo tricolor with alsolutely no tipping does not exist; it would probably be my favorite snake!

I do like the albino tricolor hondo, although the animal's coloration is a bit subdued... It's a lot different than the albino Nelsoni, whose colors are screaming at you.

Thanks!

Dan
