slothlips Jun 10, 2008 02:33 AM

i got a female iguana about 1yr old from the pet store about 2 weeks ago.her owners not longer wanted her and dropped her off and the guy at the pet store gave her to me. she apperse to be healthy and in good shape but is defecating allot i think.she goes twice a day sometimes more. i have a litter box in the bottom of her cage with water in it for her to go in but she keeps going on the top level of her cage and i am constatly cleaning it and her as she sometimes gets it on her. sometimes she goes 3 to 4 times a day and that is allot of cleaning.i was wondering if its normal for her to go that often as the last ig i had only went a few times a week also how do i get her to go in the water pan and not on her cage levels as i do allot of cleaning that way lol!

She is probably adjusting. Unless there is an unusual odor or texture, I wouldnt worry about the level for the first month or so. You may be feeding her more than she is used to. If you get a chance run a fresh fecal sample in to the vet. Do not refrigerate. Of course it goes with out saying that a vet check would be beneficial to you and the iguana.

I usually give 1 month adjustment time for everything when it comes in. That means temperment, feeding and pooping. I can not tell you how often people get worried in the first week. This is a stressful time for the animal when it moves into a new home, and well, when I am stressed my GI gets messed up too!

You can try getting into a bathing routine in the AM and evening. Maybe that will help get her on a schedule that will keep your cleaning lower.
