!!!!! What's Going on Here!!!!

fgs Jun 10, 2008 09:24 AM

I slit this clutch yesterday to find 4 of the most unique looking mohaves I've ever seen. I bred my stud blushing mojave to one of my most unique looking normlas. There are four of what looks like lavender colored mohaves.

I'm colored blind so I don't always trust the colors I see, but even I can tell that there is definitely something different going on here.

Any coments please.

Thanks

Brian

Very cool looking, Congrats Brian!

I would love to see pic's when you can get a shot of the face and when they are all out the egg, but they sure looks very sweet and different to me.

I bred my male Mojave with some different looking normals also, let's see what happens here.

Definitely looks like you could have stumbled onto a new hidden trait though. What day were they on when you cut them? There's the possibility that they will color up more, depending on what stage of development they're at. But still, they don't look like your average Mojave by any means. Look like Crystals at this point.

They look different but color comes in last. You'll see after they finish absorbing yolk and come out of the eggs. Time will tell, I'm sure you'll keep us posted.

If they're early, they may still darken up.

fgs Jun 10, 2008 10:58 AM

Yeah I'm sure your right.

I've got to be careful not to over react to the color the're showing now.

Thanks for your comment.

I'll show photos once they've shed.

They are on day 53.

I'm hoping for the best, but keeping in mind that their color will change over the next few days.

Thanks

I'd be excited. Sure they might darken up. Never having hatched a mojave myself yet much less looked at a premature one I couldn't say for sure but fingers crossed for you. I'm hoping to see something like that at hatching with some from one of my interesting females on a breeding loan to a mojave (and lesser) male that are on day 52.

panhead Jun 10, 2008 06:30 PM

I hatched out a clutch of mojaves last year. One egg had gotten extremely large due to water intake. The clutch hatched a few days early. This one snake came out with a very light lilac color to it, almost like a phantom. As time went on it darkened up to it's normal mojave color. I believe they have just not developed their full pigment yet. But WOW they sure look awsome.
Good Luck.

This is the mojave I hatched out last year. These were taken the day it crawled out of the egg.

They will look different out of the egg and after they shed even more so.

RandyRemington Jun 10, 2008 01:25 PM

Are there any you can identify as mojave that don't look purple? That might help to determine if these are normal premature mojave or mojave special.

fgs Jun 10, 2008 02:09 PM

All of the mohaves in this clutch look the same, but all of the normals look like normals meaning they all have normal coloration. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm hoping for the best, but will be happy if they hatch out healthy.

If nothing else it looks like the mohaves will have tons of blushing which is what I was after from the beginning.

Thanks

looks like a Mojodaddy to me ... given we have no clue if that is what one would look like. no matter if they are normal Mojos or something diffrent congratz on the hatchlings man

Emberball Jun 10, 2008 05:56 PM

By the time they come out, they will be nice and normal looking Mojaves.

Scott_Austin Jun 10, 2008 07:32 PM

I've cut axanthic clutches at 55 days and thought the whole clutch were axanthics. But once they actually came out (2 days later) I had nothing but normals. Don't get your hopes up until they actually come out of the egg.

I have hatched about 12 mojave clutches over the last 3 seasons and not one has looked like that and I ALWAYS cut on day 52. WTG Brian

At this point I am cautiously optimistic, but am leaning more on the cautious side.
