woo hoo, clutch from a rare locale today

shannon brown Jun 10, 2008 01:25 PM

I just got this clutch from a aberrant black belly (clovis CA.) I still have the other female of the trio to go still but this is huge for locale cal kings as this population is totally gone for good and this was the only three ever found there that was aberrant anyway.

I've always been into mainly field herping and know what's the significants of losing a local. Those kings would be very special to me as well. Nice looking pair, does the banded king have a black belly too? It seems like it would because it has a partial stripe on the tail.

Yep, all three have black bellies and the male only has a little aberrancies but both females have allot of aberrancies.
This was the only 3 out of about 50 snakes found over a 5 year period in a couple fields that are now all cement and there is no habitat for about 3-4 miles from there.
Anyway, it is also about 40 miles from any known locales of this trait (black belly with aberrancies).
Glad I could get my hands on them for sure.

Awesome Shannon!,....it sucks that their habitat is gone now, but it's at least nice to know you at least have some true locality stock from that area, and that you already produced some more.....good deal, man!.........CONGRATULATIONS on the clutch!
