Coxi egg size variations

robyn@ProExotics Jun 10, 2008 06:53 PM

Porphyraceus Coxi are funny snakes. very weird in breeding, and can be very weird in egg laying. egg sizes are all over the place.

these four eggs are currently cooking, all different clutches, but all Coxi. there are small, medium, large, and apparently, boomerang.

all eggs are good, all will hatch, all the babies will be healthy.

good to record it as a group shot : )

Robyn, I've found the same variance in mine. A question for you. My mandarin females are great eaters and are generally fairly thick. Since their eggs are so long and slender, I find it hard to palpate them to see if they are gravid. I can't really feel seperate "bumps" like other species. Their bodies don't seem to distend like kings and milks when gravid. Have you or anyone else noticed this?

I do find that Mandarins can be tough to "feel" the eggs. My females get a little "high" spined as their eggs grow. By that I mean you can really feel and see their backbones about two weeks before they lay. Smaller females are much easier to see or feel the bumps of eggs but with large females I find the spine method a better way to go.
