OT moonglow updated pics...DUW

rainbowsrus Jun 10, 2008 09:07 PM

The litter sexed out at 2.2 The three with larger yolk bellies have been hanging out on the warm end digesting, the albino has been all over the place. He had not absorbed his yolk and I had tied it off and cut it away since it was huge and he was decent size. The end of the umbilical dried up and I was able to cut away the end with string before it retracted into his belly. My normal pic setup was not showing off the moonglow so I tried some different color backgrounds. Was easy, I stacked up a few different color folders and simply yanked one at a time out, if you pay close attention you can see some pics the background changes while the snake is in the same position.

Male Albino, has lotsa color....

Female Hypo pos TH moonglow, she was the smallest one of the litter and had a very large belly.

Male Hypo pos het moonglow, he was a noice large full size baby with a bit of a yolk belly...

And Luna, my female Moonglow. Not only a genetic jackpot, she's the healthiest of the four babies and her belly is already back to a normal size!!!!

Luna is quite the fitting name for a moonglow. I really like the purple that shows through, congrats again on your unexpected litter.

yeah thats what ive been called by close friends and fam since i was little little so its cool

okay so honestly she is not my wife we are not married or even engaged... however we are planning on getting married some day and she is very patiently waiting for her ring, which might not be as soon as i had hoped i selfishly spent all my money on snakes and caging. i did give her a promise ring a year ago that gatta count for something right lol. i like to tell people we are unofficially engaged, plus fiancee or wifey just sounds better than girlfriend. so even though we are not married we live together and play the part, so i kinda feel that we are past the boyfriend/girlfriend stages.

and i am going to get the ring and do the one knee thing and all that... just kinda waiting till i do it all good

The important thing is how you two feel about and treat each other. The ring and ceremony are merely icing on the cake.

Very nice pictures, Dave. Luna is quite the stunning animal! So, I am curious.... how much does a Mooonglow go for? Not that I'm interested in buying, it's just that I know that BCI morphs can be quite expensive. I can't imagine the price tag she would have if you weren't keeping her.

Honestly I don't know, I've noticed the snows are under $2k so I'd expect the moonglows are more, but not sure how much more, I'd guess around $3K But yeah, Luna is NFS!!!

very very very...NICE!!!!

Well you will have to tell us the protocol you used for the yolk belly issue, temps...hot spot..etc...Their bellies went down nice and fast and they look no worse for the wear. I am also glad you got that cut off before the string went bye bye.

I have seen it get sucked into the belly on a few pythons me and my friend tied off like 10 years ago.

The yolk belly "cook off" is simple, keep the babies where they have access to warmer temps like a gestating female. I found they have been huddled in a pile over the heat for the most part. Except for the albino which had no yolk, he's been all over the place.

Of course with the warmer temps, misting is a must to keep them nice and moist.

Yeah the theory goes they are a lil premature then keeping at the same temp as gestation will help them finish gestating outside of mom.

Was my first experience with large yolk belly babies, never seen that in my BRB's.

I have seen it in premie reticulated pythons and it goes away, we never even thought of gestation temps, I just assumed since they where premies we should keep them warmer and set them up at 85-87 till they came around, they didn't have full color pigment either. Was in 90's.

Is the definition of a "Moonglow" morph vs. say a "snow?" Is Moonglow the rarest morph right now for these boas?

2.0 amel & anery corns (Foxfire & Daguerre)
1.0 BRB (Loki)
1.1 Cats (Nightshade & Cuzzy)

rainbowsrus Jun 13, 2008 09:03 PM

I don't know about rarest, just a bit harder to get. Snow is a combination of two recessive morphs, Albino and Anery. Add in hypo (dominant in BCI) and you have a moonglow. The sweet deal for me is I bred a DH snow to a TH moonglow. Between the two there are 5 morph genes and Luna got them all!!! Odds of getting all 5 genes in a single baby are 1 in 32.
